Talk:The Transformers: Masterpiece
Why isn't Prime named Convoy here? Since that's what he was called under this Masterpiece line, and it would be abit silly to talk about it in US terms that he was not released under, no? I suggest something like Convoy (Optimus Prime) and Convoy Perfect Edition (Optimus Prime). --FFN 19:23, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
I'm removing Grimlock from the list until someone can get an official confirmation; the silhouette of the G1 box art that's been circulating on the web recently reeks badly of fake, with the Japanese text included not even being about Transformers at all. Takeshi357 14:43, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Sublines?
[edit]So how do we handle the MP sublines, namely the Brave and the Movie verse ones? I think we should at least Mention the Brave one but how do we handle the Movie one, give it it's own page or include it on this page?Dead Metal 08:55, 12 July 2010 (EDT)
Add a subheading for Generation 1, and a subheading for Live-action Movie. Add a notes section discussing it's relation to Brave, linking to the Brave article. Reflect this information in the opener, as it is currently very misguiding.68.36.148.39 13:14, 12 July 2010 (EDT)
I put into effect most of the edits I mentioned, but now I am thinking there should be further sections for the Masterpiece toys released by Hasbro.68.36.148.39 13:36, 12 July 2010 (EDT)
American Versions
[edit]Someone should make a subsection for the redeco American versions that have been sold at Wal*Mart (Optimus Prime, Starscream and Skywarp)
MP-11
[edit]Someone should probably add the new Screamer to this page. I would, but I don't understand the template, and lack the time to decipher it. - ¡Usa El Queso! Complain here 02:33, 22 October 2011 (EDT)
I did it. --bluevictim (talk) 05:17, 22 October 2011 (EDT)
Sunstorm
[edit]Should the Sunstorm repaint of MP-11 be mentioned on here somewhere? Fredbob 00:54, 10 March 2012 (EST)
Hasbro Masterpieces
[edit]Okay. Since Hasbro MP Thundercracker was moved to the Masterpiece section, I've reverted it with the reasoning that the packaging style determines the toyline, such as Hasbro's Skywarp, Rodimus, and Starscream being respectively placed in 2008 Universe, TF2010, and Classics. Unfortunately, it's not that consistent. Hasbro MP Grimlock was long ago placed in the Masterpiece section, and Hasbro's MP10 Optimus was recently moved to Masterpiece, despite both of them having the same packaging styles as TF2010 product.
I don't want to start an edit war, so where do they all go? Inkblot 21:34, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
Missing pics
[edit]I have just uploaded the pics for Soundwave and cassetes, plus Prowl and Bluestreak. Phantom Dusclops'92 19:55, 15 March 2013 (WET)
Brave subline?
[edit]Which MPs have been released under the Brave subline. Was this something that was planned but never happened? Should it be removed from the page? --MistaTee 15:36, 15 July 2013 (EDT)
- MP-B01 King Exkizer - http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?mode=retail&product=TAK10464
- MP-B02 Dragon Kizer - http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?mode=retail&product=TAK10500
- The reason we don't cover these is, well, they're not Transformers product. Brave isn't part of the Transformers brand. --Sabrblade 15:51, 15 July 2013 (EDT)
Organizing the sections a little better?
[edit]I love and use this page as a reference all the time when discussing MPs with others. Suggestions:
- Can we shift the Hasbro MP section up and move the Bayformer MP section to last? Seems as if that Bayformer line has been abandoned? And it is almost like a sub-group. Maybe a separate page even?
- Another suggestion is to have each character and their variation/reissue listed together?
- I uploaded a stock photo collage of MP-1B. I am no expert editing this wiki, so someone please add it? http://tfwiki.net/wiki/File:MP-01B-BlackOptimusPrime-1.jpg
- Thank you for those suggestions! To address them one by one:
- - The MPM series is listed after the TakTom MPs because the Movie series is a subline of the TakaraTomy MPs, so they stay there.
- - As far as I can tell, we sort them by their first release date, with reissue dates being placed after. Variations/Hasbro versions are considered separate releases.
- - We have a policy on how toy images should be composed, and while you certainly got the robot and vehicle modes correctly, the two extra photos of his robot mode do not depict any additional features and are entirely unnecessary. You could also probably stand to add more images depicting his various gimmicks, such as his Matrix and wrist communicator. Also, I'm not sure where you got those images from, but just to be safe, photos from the galleries of fansites (such as TFW2005 and Seibertron) do not count as stock photography, and we only use those kinds of photos when permission by the website/photographer has been given. Also, with the exception of really big/gimmick-laden toys, please keep toy images down to a reasonable image/file size. --Inkblot (talk) 21:21, 27 December 2013 (EST)
- - I got the pictures from Amazon's stock pictures. Is that ok? I can't find pictures of his wrist communicators and axe outside of fan sites.
- - I made a Black Rodimus one with all his gimmicks, again, from Amazon stock files.
- - I can reduce the pics smaller if you'd like? I used the Optimus MP as a template. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Chrusher (talk • contribs){{#if:10:50, December 28, 2013| 10:50, December 28, 2013|}}.
- Amazon stock photos are fine. That Black Rodimus image is almost fine. Here are some notes:
- - It's alright if you can't find any stock photos for the gimmicks as long as we at the very least have an image of the robot and vehicle mode/s.
- - A couple of the images look pixellated and grainy, almost as if they were enlarged beyond their original size. We don't do that for toy images.
- - I assume the pic of Black Rodimus holding his rifle is meant to focus on his rifle, so why not get the original image and crop it to focus on the rifle? Same goes for his chest Matrix. With the unnecessary parts of the image removed, the cropped image can be larger in the collage. As it is, the Matrix and rifle in those pictures are puny.
- - You need to lower the file size of your images. 294 kilobytes for an 850 x 648 image is too much. Personally, I start at 100kb for a 800px x 600px image, and increase the file size by 5kb for every 100px.
Year of the Horse Optimus?
[edit]Should the Year of the Horse Optimus Prime be included on this page since it's a repaint of the MP-10 Masterpiece Optimus Prime figure?
- Most likely. I mean, the other pre-2013 Hasbro Masterpieces came under different toylines, so being under Platinum Edition doesn't really make it any less of a Masterpiece. --Inkblot (talk) 22:47, 28 February 2014 (EST)
Design Section
[edit]It says that Kobayashi did the first nine MP's but didn't Shouji Kawamori do MP03? If that's the case then we should probably edit that to be more specific and also maybe add that Kobayashi designed the movie MP Starscream.--BlackStarscream (talk) 18:08, 1 June 2014 (EDT)
New MP's?
[edit]There is a rumor on Seibertron that MP Tracks, MP Red Tracks (Roadrage) and MP Ironhide are coming out? I am Wavage! Fear mweee!!! (talk) 04:36, 9 February 2015 (EST)
- Everyone is well aware of those rumours, but they're of no concern to the wiki until an official confirmation occurs. Jalaguy (talk) 04:59, 9 February 2015 (EST)
- Oh, didn't know so many people knew about the rumour. I am Wavage! Fear mweee!!! (talk) 15:04, 11 February 2015 (EST)
Hasbro MPs
[edit]Two things I gotta ask:
- 1. If we're keeping the Platinum Figures on this page, why don't we give them their own section?
- 2. Why are Goatwave, Bluestreak, and Starscream all listed as being part of Generations? I thought Hasbro numbering their MPs meant the Hasbro MPs are now their own line and not tied to any other (despite taking box cues from whatever the current line is.) If we are tying these to a the line the packaging cues are taken from, why aren't Prowl, Sunstorm, and Grimlock reissue listed as Age of Extinction? And why is Goatwave Generations instead of Platinum Edition? Are these mistakes or is there a reason for this?--BlackStarscream (talk) 02:40, 26 January 2016 (EST)
change from Generation 1 to Primax?
[edit]My main (and conflicting) concerns about this subject are that Convoy (Primal) and Cheetus (Cheetor) are BW, not G1, but changing The_Transformers:_Masterpiece#Generation_1 to The_Transformers:_Masterpiece#Primax could mean broken links elsewhere. Lesser concerns are that "Primax" is a less useful, less familiar term for newer/more casual site visitors looking for information... but Exhaust, Road Rage, Delta Magnus, etc arguably aren't G1 either.
--Rhymus (talk) 04:44, 31 August 2016 (EDT)
- Generation 1 continuity family. Though it would probably be a better idea to change it to "main series" or something. --Riptide (talk) 04:53, 31 August 2016 (EDT)
MP Beast Wars Dinobot
[edit]So I've been wondering why exactly the MP Dinobot hasn't been put anywhere on the wiki. It was officially confirmed quite a while ago, and I find it rather odd. I'd do it myself, but I don't really know how the editing system works here, aside from the discussion. (Obviously) Now I could be wrong, or there could be some rule that I don't know about, and if there is, please correct me. I was just wondering about it. --MaximusPrimal02 (talk) 20:48, 2 October 2017 (EDT)
- We might be waiting for more info about it first (like at least an ID number) since all we really know about it at this time is "it's going to exist". --Sabrblade (talk) 21:16, 2 October 2017 (EDT)
Coins?
[edit]Hasbro Asia's collector coins are a fairly ingrained component of the Masterpiece collecting experience, as well as for some Unite Warriors and others. Do these qualify for a list on their own page? They're Hasbro-branded and Transformers-branded. Apparently we list merchandise like Valentine's cards, and even gum. TGB (talk) 09:02, 2 November 2018 (EDT)
- Aren't these already covered in the toy write ups? --Khajidha (talk) 10:11, 2 November 2018 (EDT)
- Maybe a page describing the coins in general, but I don't see the need for a separate list. I mean, we don't have a complete list of Real Action Pop-Ups 3-D Transformer Trading Cards, and this seems like much the same kind of thing (fancier, and more expensive to make, but not fundamentally different). --Khajidha (talk) 10:16, 2 November 2018 (EDT)
- "Nobody bothered to make a comprehensive list for this thing, so we shouldn't have a list for this other thing" is a really bizarre argument. Both should have lists. Have the article at "Hasbro Asia collectable coin" or something. Saix (talk) 13:03, 2 November 2018 (EDT)
- Not to mention that the coins have even appeared multiple times in-universe via Beast Wars: Uprising. 13:26, 2 November 2018 (EDT)S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent 47 (talk)
- It just doesn't seem necessary to me. The coins represent the characters they come with, they seem like just fancied up Tech Spec cards to me. I guess my question is "how is a list of these coins really any different from the already existent list of the toys?" --Khajidha (talk) 13:52, 2 November 2018 (EDT)

Convoy Atmos
[edit]Has any of the Atmos Convoys been released other than the Labron one? I haven't seen any for sale on ebay or any other source. BTW, we need a pic for the Labron one at least (as ugly as it is). --MistaTee (talk) 21:35, 29 November 2019 (EST)
- Let me bring this up again. I know the Duck version was released, but any other word of these? Should they be removed until a release date is announced? --MistaTee (talk) 16:12, 7 July 2020 (EDT)

Scale standard
[edit]- "With the release of a new tooling of Convoy in 2011, the line experienced a reboot of sorts, now featuring (at least relative to MP-1) a slightly smaller but more consistent scale using MP-09 Rodimus Convoy as the standard"
- Do we have any interviews or statements from Takara designers that explicitly say this, that MP-9 became the new scale standard? I wanted to write a "Misconceptions and urban legends about Transformers" section about MP scaling - specifically on the "Masterpiece toys were downsized starting in 2011" kerfuffle - but my impression had always been that MP-10 was the declared new scale standard, not MP-9 (even if MP-9 is technically on scale). MPM/MPMN split?
[edit]So with the reveal of "Masterpiece Movie Series Next", do we want to keep that on this page or split it off into a new page like was done with MPG? or maybe move out all of MPM/MPMN together? —BluJayWarrior (talk) 17:09, 25 September 2025 (EDT)
- Honestly, by this point, I think it'd make sense to make MPM/MPMN into its own joint page tbh (FortressMaxxing (talk) 20:14, 25 September 2025 (EDT))
Bringing this back up cus I really think it's about time we move out MPM/MPMN. Feels weird for the intro to say "Masterpiece ended in 2024... except for this one subline at the bottom of the page". Unlike with MPG I don't think there's a need to split out MPMN (for now) since in an interview they said the rebranding was due to Takara continuing the line without Hasbro. If no one has any opposition, I'll try taking care of it in a few days unless a more experienced editor gets to it first. —BluJayWarrior (talk) 03:07, 14 February 2026 (EST)
- "Few days" became "few weeks" lol. No objections (or responses) so I drafted an MPM page here. Would appreciate if any more-experienced editors patching things up before I try pushing it live next weekend (if I remember to lel) —BluJayWarrior (talk) 23:05, 1 March 2026 (EST)
- I'd say a devoted page for MPM/MPMN is reasonable at this point and this prototype looks fairly ship-shape to me. --AzimuthAcolyte (talk) 00:44, 2 March 2026 (EST)
- Yeah, I think we're good for a split: frankly, you didn't even have to prototype it, it really is all ready to go as far as I'm concerned. (FortressMaxxing (talk) 12:16, 4 March 2026 (EST))
- Just wanted to get second opinions to make sure the page was up to standard since I'm not used to making new pages. Regardless, the split is now done, whoop whoop! BluJayWarrior (talk) 00:42, 9 March 2026 (EDT)
