Talk:This Is Why I Hate Machines
Really? Sentinel is supposedly emulating Bush in this episode, and not Nixon or McCarthy or some such?
Really?KrytenKoro 12:38, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
- He's imitating both, but the note at the end of the episode about making tough choices to protect, would do it again etc... was Bush. Neither Nixon nor McCarthy ever made those kinds of decisions-- even Nixon just inherited Vietnam, he never ran a fist strike. -Derik 13:43, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
- Granted, I missed the first five minutes of the episode, so I only saw the stuff after Sentinel first saw Omega (so if he led some kind of preemptive strike on the Decepticon colonies, I missed it). But honestly, if his behavior in this episode is even meant to be a parallel, one to Bush is...rather flimsy. I mean, I dislike Bush and all, but I still don't remember him ever even trying to imprison political dissidents, no matter how much some said he would - even after they started outright vandalism and destruction of property. Plus, he didn't launch any "first strike" without congressional approval - and a big bit of this episode was Sentinel deciding to mobilize everything on his own. Hell, John Tyler looks like it would fit better, such as how he achieved the presidency and Congress' response to it.KrytenKoro 18:31, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
- If you ask me Sentinel is channeling the worst aspects of every generic, well meaning, incompetent and near-tyrannical leader of a free-nation. He doesn't seem like he's imitating anyone specific, his actions read more like a generic list of "what not to do" than a deliberate parody. (Undecided) 19:25, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
- The entire "I make the tough decisions that nobody else can and if I had to do it all again I totally would" bit was in places word-for-word taken from statements made by GWB. The whole "shutting down public spaces because terrorists" is an exaggeration, but the connection is there. Hooper_X 22:19, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
- A rough search indicates that google doesn't think that line is unique to Bush - in fact, I didn't see any mention of Bush in connection to that line until many pages in. Really, it's a pretty common line for people in charge being criticized - I remember a line very close to it being used in that Bionicle movie that aired quite a few years back. Hell, Bill Dauterive from King of the Hill went through all this behavior when he became the leader of the flood shelter in that one episode. This is just generic "Paranoid, incompetent leader" stuff.
- I get that "the funny stays", and this may seem unimportant, but honestly, the bit in the article just reads as desperate and pulling at straws politically, and just not at all humorous. I mean, at the very least, please take out the bit implying that Bush tried to accuse or prosecute people for treason for disagreeing with him, 'cause that's just complete and total bullshit. He wasn't one of our most or possibly even average competent presidents, but he wasn't freaking Stalin.KrytenKoro 02:44, 10 May 2009 (EDT)
- Actually, while Bush didn't imprison political dissidents, there are suspicions that some of the Guantanamo inmates may have been innocent Afghans -- and Iraqis? -- pinched during America's efforts to detain al-Qaida agents, Taliban, and Afghanistan/Iraq insurgents. That being said, there is a great fear that the innocent, once free, will be (understandibly) mad with America. Not unlike Sentinel's wrongful detention of Wasp. I know for a fact that he's imitating Bush when he uses the line "...and I approve of this message." W. First used this line at the end of his 2000 Presidential commercials, and continued to do so in 2004 against Kerry. Other politicos -- Democrat, Republicon, and fictional -- have borrowed this line ever since. -- Cybertronian 141.225.195.120 06:23, 23 May 2009 (EDT).
- ...."I approve of this message" was not a "trend started by Bush", it was a law started in North Carolina and brought to the federal level in 2002, and spearheaded by Senators unrelated to Bush.
- "Wrongful imprisonment" is hardly, in any way, something new to Bush, and hardly his "thing". And the analogy wouldn't even work, as Wasp was imprisoned under Magnus' reign - you're basically comparing Sentinel to Obama with that analogy, unless you mean Sentinel as the actual one who turned him in - in which case you're comparing him to generals on the ground, in just an awfully twisted analogy. Finally, just on a personal note, I'd like you to check up these "suspicions" by looking at the recidivism rate for released detainees, which rivals that of actual convicted criminals, and I'd think that in eight years we should have some examples of wrongful detainment if it's such a problem.KrytenKoro 08:58, 23 May 2009 (EDT)

Saur/Zaur
[edit]Since our article for Saur currently lives at "Saur," I've cleared out all the links to 'Zaur.' We can place the animated Article there with no conflicts.
(This might change, since IMO the official spelling of Zaur should count as an official spelling for the G1 'bot's name as well, but we can stick the Animated 'bot's article at "Zaur" (Wyatt's spelling) while we debate that. -Derik 14:02, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
I figured I'd put this here. In the article for Zaur, in that picture to the left is a female transformer who has something like a hover skirt and I'd swear it was Botanica. Should this go on the appearance list or not?--AWT88 21:06, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
- That's artwork by Wyatt. Look at the image page. —Interrobang 21:18, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
His main picture's lifted from the April Fools, so no. --Professor Icepick 21:18, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
- My bad. Damn, I gotta pay a little more attention to that stuff.--AWT88 21:21, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
Capitalization
[edit]Shouldn't this page be at "This is Why I Hate Machines", not This Is Why I Hate Machines?--86.87.28.191 14:03, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
- I had the same thought, but I'm not sure. -Derik 14:06, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
- "Is" is a verb. Verbs are capitalized in titles. It is only short prepositions which are uncapitalized. --ItsWalky 14:11, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
- I see... it depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is! -Derik 14:38, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
- Fuckity. It's not like me to forget that "is" is a verb.--86.87.28.191 16:13, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
- Short prepositions (the general limit seems to be four letters) and conjunctions. (Hence, title capitalization that seem weird to some, like "The House that Wheeljack Built!" The "that" in that phrase is actually a conjunction.) —Interrobang 16:33, 9 May 2009 (EDT)

Continuity error
[edit]Your continuity error isnt one. Starscream states that Megatron managed to unlock the transformation of Omega supreme and to control the transwarp system, but not the weapons.
A true continuity error lies in the fact that when Omega transwarps at the end of the episode its in robot mode, and then it comes out of transwarp in ship mode. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.247.43.111 (talk • contribs){{#if:17:34, 9 May 2009| 17:34, 9 May 2009|}}.
- Yup, all Starscream does is complain about not having control over Omega's weapons, though it's Lugnut who says that Megatron regained control of Omega's transformation and transwarping, not Starscream. Also it looks like the Decepticons took Omega back to Earth at the end of the episode and considering that it took multiple transwarp jumps to reach Cyberton in Transwarped, I don't think it's a continuity error for Omega to be in vehicle mode. The 'Cons would have had time to transform him off-screen. (Undecided) 19:08, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
- No - at the end of TransWarped Omega Starscream makes it in a single jump. In the first instance (which you're thinking of), Omega conked out halfway through the jump, which is why they "land" in the middle of nowhere. - SanityOrMadness 20:37, 9 May 2009 (EDT)
Should it be a considered a continuity error that the police drones are attacking the police chief, for no apparent reason? Or was there a reason given that I missed? -- White Cat (talk) 05:18, 14 March 2024 (EDT)
- As Fanzone is on the phone to tech support, we can reasonably infer it's because the drones are malfunctioning. --abates (talk) 05:27, 14 March 2024 (EDT)
Fortress Maximus
[edit]Shouldn't Fortress Maximus appear on the "Autobots" or the "Others" section of characters? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 190.206.240.231 (talk • contribs){{#if:| {{{2}}}|}}.
- No, because it's a building. --abates 21:17, 14 January 2011 (EST)
