How do spoilers work with the novel and comic adaptations coming out before the movie? Do spoiler tags get dated until a week after the movie comes out? - Starfield 16:47, 7 May 2009 (EDT)

...for the adaptions themselves... yes I think, that makes sense-- on character pages. On the movie adaption issue pages OTOH, just the standard wait period. -Derik 17:42, 7 May 2009 (EDT)

I do not want any novelization and adaptation spoilers on character pages or other related articles. Stuff from adaptations should stay on their respective articles. Most of my work on the wiki at the moment is updating and maintaining movie articles, so it would be a personal inconvenience to me if I had to avert my eyes every time I come across the Revenge of the Fallen movie sections of character articles. Not only that, but there will be people who will wander onto this wiki with the intention of refreshing themselves on the movie or to read prequel stuff leading up to ROTF, but have no intention of reading up on plot points of the movie itself. --FFN 00:57, 21 May 2009 (EDT)
I would agree with this approach. -Derik 00:59, 21 May 2009 (EDT)

Novel and Film fiction

[edit]

There's several articles that have film fiction in the same section as stuff shown in the novel adaptation (eg Seeker (ROTF) and Alice (ROTF)). Wouldn't it make sense to have some divide, or take novel only info and put it in trivia or something Eire 16.45 June 25 09 (UTC)

It is all the same story in different mediums. I don't agree with putting them under their own heading. If it is a piece of information that provides more background into what is going on (like the Alice (ROTF) and Seeker (ROTF) pages), I think it should be right in with the film stuff. It is a piece of information that irreconcilably conflicts, I think it should be noted in a note. (like the Tomb of the Primes.) - Starfield 11:56, 25 June 2009 (EDT)
Except info from the novel has clearly been cut from the film. Which would make it inaccurate. Adaptation information that doesn't appear in the film gets ignored later on. We've seen it before. Is there any evidence in the film Alice didn't just scan a human? It complicates matters. Eire 21.28 June 25 09 (UTC)
I think the wiki readily uses the adaptations to fill in gaps, so long as it doesn't conflict with anything. Yes, there is evidence Alice didn't just scan a human. The adaptations. - Starfield 16:38, 25 June 2009 (EDT)

ROTF canon.

[edit]

In an interview, Roberto Orci gave a statement that, I think sheds quite a bit of light on the approach taken for ROTF canon.

"Do you see Devastator as being made up of individual robots, or just separate pieces?" "I suppose since we didn't commit either way, I wouldn't want to tie the hands of future writers with my non-canon opinion."{{#if:|{{{quote2}}}}}{{#if:Roberto Orci|Roberto Orci{{#if:|, {{{3}}}|}}|}}

So, Orci takes a different approach than, say, Derrick J. Wyatt. His opinion is non-canon. If it is undefined in the film, then canon is whatever another writer says it is. So if a comic later on explains Devastator or Arcee you don't have to worry about it not being "really" canon because it didn't appear in the film. I think this directly relates to the topic above. The movie took no stand on Alice's backstory, so there is no reason why we should reject the backstory she does have from another medium just because it didn't appear in the film. - Starfield 11:24, 16 July 2009 (EDT)

What an excellent illustrating quote. It seems to nicely capture the ambivalence behind Orci's comments about Arcee and other things as well. Kudos! -Derik 12:29, 16 July 2009 (EDT)

The "T"

[edit]

I thought the "T" in The Fallen's name was meant to be capitalized. Can someone please clear this up for me? --¡Usa El Queso! 16:58, 7 June 2011 (EDT)

This is due to the rule that minor words (articles and short prepositions) aren't capitalized in titles of books/movies/etc. --Khajidha 17:02, 7 June 2011 (EDT)
But it's part of a proper name, isn't it? It's even mentioned on The Fallen's page that the "T" is capitalized.
"The proper treatment of his name, with its capital-T "The", is established both in the comics and the Ultimate Guide. The one dissenting source is his on-package bio, which simply calls him "Fallen" (as in, "Fallen forgot his real name long ago"). The reason for this awkward treatment is unknown, though the usual culprits behind toy-name oddities - trademark issues - are suspected."
See? --¡Usa El Queso! 13:02, 8 June 2011 (EDT)
There is a note on the film page addressing this. The official title of the film is Revenge of the Fallen (with a lower-case "t" in "the") even though it is apparently referring to The Fallen (with a capital "T" in "The").- Starfield 13:23, 8 June 2011 (EDT)
Ah, thanks for clearing that up. --¡Usa El Queso! 14:10, 8 June 2011 (EDT)
