Talk:Ultra Magnus (G1)/toys
transforme jr
[edit]Why does it say he was released In 85? If this is true, is this his first toy? And why does it look so accurate in vehicle mode to the final one?
Unofficial Stuff
[edit]Shall I assume that Fans Project's products are still a no-no?--Hida Atarasi 12:14, 1 October 2009 (EDT)
- Yep, they have no place here.--Sunjumper 12:16, 1 October 2009 (EDT)
Not even a mention in the trivia?--96.26.48.65 3:38, 1 March 2010
- No. --Detour 18:40, 1 March 2010 (EST)
Voice changer
[edit]Anyone got any info on the old UM voice changer? I remember seeing these things all over the place back in the eighties. 199.90.28.195 09:12, 26 March 2010 (EDT)
- My info is "it looks like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pocketfulofplastic/3561204277/in/photostream/ " --ItsWalky 09:18, 26 March 2010 (EDT)
Who the fuck wrote this shit?
[edit]Seriously the unfunny captions under the images are completely lame. Also why not just call it recolor instead of redeco, redeco is only 1 letter shorter and it just looks retarded. 72.209.44.189 07:21, 2 December 2011 (EST)
- Because a redeco usually involves changing more than simply colors; the deco changes, including differently-placed paint operations, and, in the case of G1 toys, different stickers. --M Sipher 07:45, 2 December 2011 (EST)
- Redeco is also the term actually used by Hasbro and other toy companies. --Khajidha 07:50, 2 December 2011 (EST)
Commemorative Series
[edit]Writeup currently implies that the 2012 Asia reissue has long stacks (but then also claims the toy is mostly unchanged from the previous release).
I know the stock photos apparently showed long stacks (Jack is rather vague regarding his sources here), but this looks to be the Asia version (no "Commemorative Series" label, "Ultra Magnus" is ™ instead of ®, the current status since Prime), and he has short stacks. This also confirms that the Asia version originally came with short stacks, and the long stacks seen in the photo are a custom job.--Nevermore (talk) 05:02, 11 October 2014 (EDT)
Legends comic
[edit]So Takara Legends Ultra Magnus comes with a short (i.e. 2-page spread) comic. I don't read Japanese, so I don't really know what the best way to describe it is (or, more importantly, create a page for it); I'm linking it here to see if anyone else has any thoughts (sorry for the poor picture; I don't have access to a scanner right now): [1] -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 13:37, 6 October 2015 (EDT)
- There's already a page for it: LG14 Ultra Magnus. --flicky1991 14:21, 6 October 2015 (EDT)
Magnus Prime again
[edit]So apparently Magnus Prime was supposed to be Ginrai but had to be renamed for copyright/trademark reasons. Does that affect where we should put him? Omegatron (talk) 05:00, 18 September 2017 (EDT)
- John Warden's comments in that interview make no sense. There's no acknowledgement that "Ginrai" is the name of the Titan Master, judging by Trypticon's Titan Master Crunch. S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent 47 (talk) 05:10, 18 September 2017 (EDT)
- Presumably Magnus Prime was supposed to be like the Japanese headmasters and godmasters in that it's a transtector controlled by the titanmaster. The titanmaster is the human Ginrai but when he's joined with the transtector the whole thing is still called Ginrai. Either way, John Warden considers him to definitely not be Ultra Magnus but I don't know if that would just be considered authorial intent that has been overridden or not. Omegatron (talk) 06:44, 18 September 2017 (EDT)
- Does anyone else have an opinion on this? Would there be any objections if I moved Magnus Prime to Ginrai's page? Omegatron (talk) 07:48, 25 September 2017 (EDT)
- That would be rather bizarre considering that in the retail release, Ginrai is the Titan Master, which the wiki has already listed. S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent 47 (talk) 08:50, 25 September 2017 (EDT)
- The original Ginrai and the Takara Legends Ginrai work the exact same way, are those bizarre? Omegatron (talk) 10:14, 25 September 2017 (EDT)
- The published bio makes it clear it's Ultra Magnus, regardless of Warden's incoherent statements. Saix (talk) 09:37, 25 September 2017 (EDT)
- It very vaguely implies it could be Ultra Magnus, it could equally be Delta Magnus or someone else entirely. Warden's statements sound pretty coherent to me. Omegatron (talk) 10:14, 25 September 2017 (EDT)
- Why would it be some obscure character that Hasbro folk have likely never heard of and not the iconic character who has always been identified as "City Commander"? The only reason we're having this debate is because Warden opened his yap; we ignored them when they said AOE Slash was female and I don't see why we're not ignoring some guy who literally said "put him with Optimus Prime, or the Combiner Wars Optimus, like it’s in that zone, or the 2000's Armada". A random interview doesn't trump published material. Saix (talk) 10:59, 25 September 2017 (EDT)

I would advocate putting Magnus Prime on his own page. There's too much debate, contradiction, and ambiguity to definitively call him Ultra Magnus, Ginrai, or anything else. On his own page, there would be room to properly acknowledge the debate. Squeezed into Magnus or Ginrai's Toy sections, there would not. --Xaaron (talk) 10:34, 25 September 2017 (EDT)
- Agreed. --Jimsorenson (talk) 10:52, 25 September 2017 (EDT)
- Done. See Magnus Prime. --Jimsorenson (talk) 10:34, 26 September 2017 (EDT)
MP-2 release year
[edit]On the main MP page, the figure release date is 3-24-2005. However in this article, it says the original release year was 2004, but then in Australia in 2005. Something doesn't jibe here. Not sure where the 3-24 date comes from, but the booklet that came with the figure has copywrite 2005. Unless someone can prove otherwise, I'll list 3-24-2005 as the official release date of the figure and update the date and year pages. --MistaTee (talk) 21:59, 22 March 2021 (EDT)
About the Spoiler Pack
[edit]"It is noteworthy that the black gradients are meant to represent his currently dying condition" That is simply not true. This release is the normal japanese release which describes it as battle damage and wear.
The scheme actually references aspects of both Laser Ultra Magnus and Ultra Magnus Yokokuhen Version among others. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bocalt (talk • contribs){{#if:| {{{2}}}|}}.
- I get what you mean, but that's a bit of a stretch saying that it's a straight up reference to the G-2 toy. The Netflix figures are sold as "screen accurate" depictions of the characters in the WFC Trilogy cartoon. In Ultra Magnus's case, it represents his corpse or his badly damaged body before his death, as the model's paint scheme used at the beginning of the show is more reminiscent of the original Siege toy. The product description isn't exactly wrong either as it is still technically "battle damage" that he sustained. Fanofcoolstuff27 (talk) 10:28, 4 July 2021 (EDT)
- Also with one of the spoilers literally being; "THIS CAN ONLY / MEAN ONE THING / ULTRA MAGNUS IS DEAD," it's hard to say he's alive.-DDog (talk) 12:43, 4 July 2021 (EDT)
- To be fair, if they are basing this assumption solely on the Japanese release, then I can see the confusion because, iirc, the Japanese release neglects the "spoiler pack" box and the dish of Play-Doh and puts the figure in a window box like the Deluxes and Voyagers.
