Talk:Zandar
He's appeared in GIJ/TF comics. He's in canon, and people never remember him. What's not apt about this page?
wait, who are we talking about again?

- Considering his entire shtick is being overlooked and forgotten I'd say the page is perfect. Remove the "to be deleated" tag and add the "things that don't exist" cat. and your there. --71.235.142.128 10:53, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Where did this guy appear?
[edit]Zandar doesn't seem to show up in the Marvel G1, Dreamwave or Devil's Due crossovers, and the only page that even links here is Peter Cullen, so he doesn't seem to be in any "featured characters" sections. Was he in the Marvel G2 stuff or something? I don't have that, so I can't check. --Apoc 02:51, 10 October 2009 (EDT)
- No, he isn't in the G2 prelude in G.I. Joe. --Jimsorenson 03:16, 10 October 2009 (EDT)
- He was there, you just don't remember him being there. Hooper_X 10:28, 10 October 2009 (EDT)
- Yes, yes, very droll. Actually, though, I reread all 5 issues and he never shows up. If I'm wrong, please point me to an issue and page #. It's not inconceivable that I missed him but I would consider it unlikely. --Jimsorenson 11:22, 10 October 2009 (EDT)

Silly side-observations
[edit]Okay, I've just spent 2 days rummaging through 25 years of G.I. Joe comics because Hooper's joke on this talk page intrigued me, and I wanted to know if it could actually fit with continuity. This is what I found:
- Zandar does not appear in the 1987 G.I. Joe and the Transformers comic, even though Zarana does.
- Zandar does not appear in the 1987 "Ancient Relics!" crossover.
- Zandar does not appear in the 1993 crossover in the pages of G.I. Joe, or the few crossover pages of G2#1&2.
- Zandar does not appear in the first Devil's Due Joe/TF crossover. Or the 3rd, despite Zarana being in it, again. Nor is he mentioned by Zarana or Zartan (including Zartan's Joe/TF II appearance!) or any of the other Dreadnoks.
- Zandar does not appear in TF/Joe Divided Front. Again, Zarana makes it on the cover of #2, but no Zandar.
- Checking one of the 29 Joe/TF crossover issues published (and unpublished) this decade witht heir innumerable variant covers illustrating classic character pair-ups and massed army shots (including the oodles and oodles of variant covers which featured shit that was never in the comics, like female Autobots) again Zarana shows up several times, but no Zandar-- despite several Dreadnok group covers.
I call shenanigans on this. The issue is not that Zandar has never appeared in a TF crossover... it's that he's conspicuously absent. Ridiculously so. He is clearly hiding.
Anyway, picking apart the ridiculously intricate chain of events surrounding Dr. Mindbender's original death-- with all the subsequent retcons and reveals (which were still rolling in 17 year later) to window when the %^&$ his clone tube got moved to the Silent Castle (which I can now depressingly cite, with issue numbers and event-limiters) runs you right into The Coil, which was a secret cabal that was founded around Serpentor's original death, 3 issues before Zandar's last appearance, which Zandar supposedly became an operative of. It's a very clean and deliberate retcon, which Blaylock began laying groundwork for 5 years earlier when he made a point of highlight how Zandar dropped out of sight around that time. Blah blah blah... and an explicit timeline such that the Coil had a major active milestone right before Dr. Mindbender's revival etc etc etc... all of which basically amounts to "Yes, Zandar was running around disguising himself as Cobra run-of-the-mill troops at this time."
So yes, Hooper's joke about Zandar being there but nobody noticing wasn't just amusing... if you actually chart out all the retcons... it actually appears to be right. (Which is to say... some of the generic background guys in the Joe comics of this era are, per-continuity, actually Zandar. Whether any of the ones in the TF crossover issues were...? 50/50 shot.) -Derik 23:20, 12 October 2009 (EDT)
- Of course I'm right. I'm always right. Hooper_X 16:44, 13 October 2009 (EDT)
- Well me too... but that doesn't mean it's not gratifying to have someone else check my work. -Derik 17:34, 13 October 2009 (EDT)
