Pinkie Pie and Gauge's cooking show becomes a real food fight when Shockwave crashes the party.

Synopsis

Pinkie Pie loves smiles, parties, making new friends, and all things sweet, so that's why she's taken it upon herself to host the first-ever cultural exchange between two planets... a cooking show! As the audience applauds for the first episode of Preppin' with Pinkie, the bubbly pink pony takes introduces herself and Gauge, her special Autobot guest. To represent Equestria, Pinkie unveil a platter of delicious cupcakes, and although Gauge's initially flustered, Pinkie's support gives her the confidence to introduce the audience to traditional Cybertronian cuisine... but the ponies in the audience are put off by the sight of her favorite iron filing casserole.

Undaunted, Pinkie gets to work making a batch of her special cupcakes, but before she can even peel a single apple, the ground shakes and a flash of eerie light heralds the arrival of a spacebridge portal. Out steps Shockwave; as he reconfigures his hands into glowing kitchen utensils, he explains that he's not here to find out about Equestrian culture—he wants to find out how many ponies it takes to fuel a single Decepticon. Shockwave lunges for Pinkie Pie; she's faster, and while Pinkie blinds the Decepticon by throwing a dishrag in his face, Gauge grabs a baking tray and uses her improvised weapon to beat Shockwave over the head. As their audience stampedes for the doors, Gauge tells her friend to get to safety, but Pinkie refuses and tells Gauge that they're going to take down the baddie together. Gauge tackles Shockwave, yanks off his hands, and sends him staggering backwards towards the stage where Pinkie trips him up. Before the Decepticon can recover his footing, Gauge grabs a pair of frying pans off the counter and throws one to Pinkie Pie; together, the two whack Shockwave in the face, then kick him right back through the spacebridge—and as the portal disappears, their grateful audience applauds!

Forty-seven minutes later, Pinkie Pie's cooking show comes to an end as both hosts put the finishing touches on their respective meals. Each takes a bite of the other's dish... and find that, although they're great at taking down Decepticons together, Autobots and ponies don't share similar tastes in food!

  • Pinkie introduces Gauge as the "newest and freshest of all Autobots", evoking her history in the 2019 IDW continuity, which depicted her as the last new Cybertronian life to emerge from the Pyramid responsible for forging all new Transformers.
  • Shockwave's plan to use ponies to fuel Decepticons might be a reference to pink alchemy.

My Little Pony references

  • We'd be here all day if we flagged up every single pony that appears in the comic in these reference sections, but we'd be remiss if we didn't point out Muffins, who you might also know as either "Ditzy Doo" or "Derpy Hooves", sitting in the first row of the audience. Just one of many background ponies in the series premiere, her strange, googly-eyed expression promptly rocketed her to memetic stardom amongst the adult fandom under several official and semi-official names, and her popularity led to her getting a few speaking roles later in the show's run. Other notable cameos include musicians Vinyl Scratch and Octavia; Ponyville school teacher Cheerilee; marefriends Lyra Heartstrings and Bon Bon; and nameless-extra-turned-shameless-Doctor-Who-homage Doctor Hooves.

  • In this universe, Shockwave apparently has two hands, much like his cartoon counterpart did in "More than Meets the Eye, Part 1". He does, however, display the power to morph both of his hands into different shapes; although he never uses his iconic energy-blaster attachment outside of the issue cover, he attacks our heroes with various kitchen utensils that include a whisk, cheese grater, spatula, and, a um, spork. In fact, it brings to mind the Energon weapons used by Optimus and Megatron in their battle at the Sherman Dam.
