Thunderblast is an Autobot-allied Mini-Con from the Cybertron portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.
Enemy at the Distant Horizon doesn't quite have the same "oomph".

After centuries of combat, Thunderblast has formed something of an odd relationship with his long-running rival Sky Lynx. As part of the Air Defense Mini-Con Team, Thunderblast specializes in long-range ground-based defense against aerial attacks, and Sky Lynx specializes in long-range aerial attacks. The two have clashed so many times —at long range, naturally— that they've come to respect each other's skills and welcome the challenges the other provides.

Thunderblast often finds himself thinking that under different circumstances, he and Sky Lynx would be fast friends. But he is still the enemy, so Thunderblast will never let down his vigil in the defense of Earth. After all, he would honestly hate to disappoint Sky Lynx by providing any less a challenge.

Thunderblast named himself after the Decepticon of the same name, under the belief that others would fear him based on the name's reputation. Surprisingly, it worked several times. Ask Vector Prime, 2015/05/15

Cybertron comic

Thunderblast was among the Mini-Cons who forged an alliance with the Decepticons to eliminate a Mini-Con colony on one of Cybertron's moons. He was fighting the Council of Sages and Autobot troops sent to defend the colony when Unicron showed up and started slaughtering the Mini-Cons. Revelations Part 5

It is unknown why Thunderblast erroneously appeared as a Decepticon-allied Mini-Con in this story.

Released as part of the first wave of Cybertron Mini-Con 2-packs, Thunderblast is a redeco of Armada Bonecrusher, transforming into a multiple-rocket launcher vehicle with a pressure-launch missile-launcher boom. This launcher becomes his right arm in robot mode. He was normally only available in a 2-pack with Sky Lynx.
This toy was repurposed as Beast Wars: Uprising Thunderblast. This mold was also used by Armada Scattor.

Thunderblast and Sky Lynx were added to the Voyager-class toy Leobreaker as a Target-exclusive bonus pack for the cost of a normal Voyager. All of the toys are the same as their individual releases.

  • As the image caption alludes to, the story of Thunderblast and Sky Lynx's respect for each other as enemies is inspired by the then-recent-ish movie Enemy at the Gates.
  • This is the only version of this mold whose head is not painted to match the colors of the main body, thus revealing that the head is part of a different mold sprue otherwise not used by this Mini-Con.
  • Thunderblast's painted-on Autobot sigil ends up on the sole of his left foot in robot mode. Gee.
