A transmuter is a device with the ability to convert inefficient crude oil into more efficient forms of energy that are palatable to Transformers.

Transmuters appeared exclusively in the UK portion of the Marvel Comics continuity.

In a plot to gain energy, the Decepticon Pretenders took over the Keeler Oil Terminal. They brought aboard a transmuter to convert the oil, and had the human workers attempt to lift the heavy device. Frustrated with the slow pace of the humans, Skullgrin picked it up and attached it to the oil pump. They did not have the chance to use it, as the Autobot Pretenders arrived at the scene and defeated the Decepticons in battle. The Chain Gang!
