I think your template is pretty good. Some very minor comments:

The word "tagline" isn't needed at the top of the article. That is a good place for a one or two sentence summary, like you've done, but that's the way most of our articles are laid out, so the tagline label is extraneous.

Making the date of the first airing a wikilink is not necessary, nor is the "8 October" article you created. Stating the date is good. But it's not like we'll have so many different things that happened on 8 October that we need a link to an article about that date.

The featured characters box looks okay to me. Assuming other editors think it's alright too, we can turn it into a template to make sure it has a consistant look across the various articles that would eventually use it.

That's all I've got, I think. Welcome to our Wiki.

I echo Steve's concerns about the date links, etc. There is also some data lost between your version and the current template -- namely, knowing which were minor and major characters, and in which order they appeared. I'm not sure losing that is worth the pretty table, but I'll have to give it further thought. --ItsWalky 23:35, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

I really like the idea of having a template like that, as Steve and Walky have also said, but if I may make one suggestion, I think you should really do something about that appearances list; it's too colourful and very distracting. I'd say that something simpler and less obtuse would be better. --Suki Brits 17:32, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes, that's much nicer. Good work. --Suki Brits 19:24, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

I like the character table thing- but I worry about what happens with background characters. Does Sunstorm's appearance in MtMtE bump everyone else down a #? What about Hauler? What happens when Takara releases a recolor they retroactively insert as a new character from a cartoon episode? Do the order-of-appearance numbers all have to be changed?

Are we counting just non-speaking roles? Skids never spoke, does that mean he'll never be in the list? What about characters who are mentioned in an episode, but don't actually appear? (Happened to Omega Supreme once, just off the top of my head.)

I like this format, but the appearance numbeing troubles me. Maybe yu could obviate the issue if you gave timestamps instead?

I feel i shoudl ask though-- is order of appearance actually... data? We see it in TV shows and movies for actor credits as one of the simple 'fair' wasys of listing actors (the other is alphabetical, which this template also uses.) One of the problems with such fair and impartial systems is that it actually discards data, insofar that it refuses to make any sort of qualitative judgement on the material (it does not place stars ahead of bit players.)

I mean- you have a layout for the Master builders which does not indicate in its vital stats that its the focal episode for Hoist and Grapple. "Focal characters" is not a huge limb to go out on. (Of course, it's not a foolproof answer either. Devcon isn't a focal character in the Gamber, but it's everythign to him as a character. Almost liek you need a second heading for 'Signifigant Episode for these characters')

I like the layout visually, that's why I'm trying to poke holes in it, i want to see if it can cope with difficult questions, or if it breaks.-Derik 05:46, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Master Builders

[edit]

Hmn, well, I can't honestly recall where I first heard it, but googling for the two terms produces a few hits that note how it was changed. Plus whereas "The Master Builder" gleans 7 hits through Google Groups on ATT, "The Master Builders" gets you 189. And I do recall - though this is just out of my own memory - that the title on the G2 version (which was where I first saw it) of the episode was different that on the DVD. - Chris McFeely 13:25, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Weren't the G1 DVDs put out by Mavrick taken directly from the broadcast masters w/o any changes? I wouldn't be suprised if the title got changed when the studio was fixing errors that had been caught on the original video transfer (which is what Rhino used).
slightly off topic, It would be nice if/when Sony releases the G1 series on DVD, they would the broadcast masters, but remaster it so it would have the sharper colors of the original video transfer. And no added sounds. Especially no added sounds. --FortMax 18:43, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
