Vintage Horror Movie Series

I never drink... energon...

The Vintage Horror Movie Series (ビンテージホラー映画シリーズ Vintage Horror Eiga Series) was a proposed subline to the Generation 1 toyline which never made it past the conceptualization phase (more specifically, the concept art phase).

The series would have seen several monsters from classic horror movies realized as transforming robots. Exactly what fiction, if any, might have originally been devised to explain why these monsters were suddenly turned into giant robots and how they might interact with the Autobots and the Decepticons is unknown. But Facebook came up with something 30 years later, so we're good.

Known monsters within the Vintage Horror Movie Series include:

Sorry, no Frankenstein's monster.

Ask Vector Prime

[edit]

When asked why Transformers based on classic movie monsters exist, Vector Prime replied that they were seen as fearsome and potent alternate forms. Evidently, they are actually the alternate forms of unknown Cybertronians, not the real monsters. Ask Vector Prime, 10 June 2015

Toys

[edit]

Concept art of the toys was printed in the Deluxe edition of the guidebook Transformers Generations.

Oddly, the legal feasibility of this proposed series is highly questionable. The Creature from the Black Lagoon is owned by Universal Studios, who also own the rights to the specific depiction of Bela Lugosi's Dracula (of whose portrayal the concept art is clearly based on), whereas the Fly is owned by 20th Century Fox. Generations identifies the toys as being these characters specifically, not parodies or approximations. Whether any actual attempts were made by Takara or Hasbro to obtain rights from the proper studios is unknown, though that fact may have contributed to the series' cancellation at the early concept art phase.
