The Generation 2 wars begin as Megatron and his Decepticons attack Earth in search of forestonite!

Synopsis

[edit]

Cybertron Year: 5724. Earth Year: 199X (August).

Down on Earth, the young Junpei witnesses two strange objects approaching the moon through his telescope.

The two objects are in fact Electro and Jolt, engaged in mortal combat. Taking their battle to the surface of the moon, Electro gains the upperhand and impales Jolt with his Saber Shaft. Dying, Jolt decides to take Electro with him. He grabs Electro and begins to melt him with his "Exhaust After-Burn" attack. Electro headbutts Jolt and breaks free. He then hurls his Saber Shaft at his enemy, slicing him in two. Now really dying, the upper half of Jolt tells Electro that he will never be able to save "the blue-green world" from Megatron. Then he explodes. Worried, Electro fears what might happen if Megatron finds the forestonite super energy on Earth.

Not far away, on board a Decepticon spaceship, Megatron orders Skyjack, Hooligan, and Space Case to beam down to Earth and tear it apart until they find the forestonite.

Down in Japan, Junpei has overslept and is going to be late for the Japanese Defense Force Airshow. As he attempts to leave, he spots his dad on the way to work. He tries to tell him about the weird objects in the sky, but his dad isn't buying it. He's then stopped by his overweight mother, who tells him that he's not leaving the house on a Sunday until he's had his breakfast.

At the airshow, near the base of Mount Fuji, Junpei is overly stimulated. His peaceful afternoon is disturbed, however, when the Decepticon Cyberjets attack! Junpei attempts to fight them off with pebbles, only to attract their attacks. Before he can be slaughtered, Electro arrives on the scene and gives him a hoverboard to escape on.

Mecha Bullseye is displeased.

Hooligan is disappointed in Jolt's failure to defeat Electro, so all three Cyberjets gang-up on the lone Autobot. Electro slices off Skyjack's arm and elbows Space Case in the face, but his kickassery is cut short when Hooligan blows both his arms off with his "Multi Shower Missiles".

Electro is granted a brief respite, when a Japanese Defense Force tank enters the fray. Space Case immediately totals it (much to Junpei's horror). Space Case then turns his attentions back to Electro, but before he can deliver the killing blow, he finds himself shot in the face by Optimus Prime. Junpei recognizes Prime as the leader of the Autobots.

Hooligan is pleased as punch to finally get the chance to throw down with the great Optimus Prime, but before he can attack, the prankster is vaporized by Megatron's poorly aimed cannon blast.

Megatron, in tank mode, fires a second time and finally manages to hit Prime, knocking him into a lake. Megatron transforms and leaps into the air, just as Optimus emerges from the lake. Prime fires his "Gattling Impact Laser" and lands a direct hit on Megatron, sending the Decepticon plunging into the lake.

!

Megatron then proceeds to blow up the lake and much of the surrounding forest (though Junpei somehow survives by climbing a tree). Prime and Megatron continue their skirmish with Megatron taking the upperhand, until Junpei gives Prime a tearful speech, boosting the Autobot leader's burning spirit. Megatron fires his "Tornado Axe" at Prime, who counters with his "Double Wheel-Torq Mega-Ton". Prime's attack proves superior as it blows Megatron up. The injured Megatron teleports back to his spaceship, promising revenge.

Prime helps Junpei out of the tree as Volt arrives to give the injured Electro a hand (and an arm, and another hand, and another arm). Junpei asks what will happen if the Decepticons return, and Prime tells him that with his help, they will defeat the Decepticons.

Junpei thinks that's totally wicked sweet.

Notes

[edit]
  • This manga special is not in continuity with Hidetsugu Yoshioka's G-2 storyline. The Yoshioka storyline continued on from Operation Combination, taking place around 2036-2038. "The New Battle!!", on the other hand, takes place sometime in the 1990s.
  • Every other word out of Junpei's mouth is "Sugei!" ("Awesome!").
  • Why do the Decepticons attack the airshow? Was there forestonite there, or something? They don't really say.
  • Junpei's familiarity with Optimus Prime and the Autobots would indicate that at least some version of the events of Generation 1 occurred prior to this story.
  • Junpei's dad works on Sundays? Poor guy.
