- Cindarr is a Darkling Lord from the IDW portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

An elderly, muscular Darkling Lord, Cindarr's imposing frame belies the calm and calculating mind of an intellectual, ever willing to lend an ear or a word of advice to his leader Virulina.
Fiction
[edit]2005 IDW continuity family
[edit]Like the other Darkling Lords, Cindarr was a follower of Darkstorm, and one of the warriors who vied for the favor of the capricious Merklynn, competing with Leoric's Spectral Knights. The Curtain Following the great solar de-alignment that led to the destruction of Prysmos, Cindarr was one of the few Prysmosians who survived the cataclysm and eventually came to take up refuge in the magically-recreated city of New Prysmos in Cybertron's underground. With the Darkling Lords now led by Virulina, Cindarr was one of the Visionaries who attended a meeting where the assembled Prysmosians debated what to do about Cybertron's native population.
While the Visionaries' leaders Virulina and Leoric met with Cybertronian representatives Kup and Ironhide, Cindarr investigated rumors that one of the Cybertronians had been injured merely by approaching the magical energies of the Talisman, and found them to be true—and, as well, that the Talisman was slowly tunneling towards the core of Cybertron. When Virulina returned to the Monastery of the Darkling Lords, Cindarr revealed his findings to her, and that the Darkling Lords could potentially destroy the Cybertronians in a matter of months or less. Schismatic

When Virulina used this information to kill the Autobot ambassador Kup with her magic, Cindarr joined her and Merkynn in presenting Kup's severed head to the assembled citizens of New Prysmos as Virulina announced her intent to exterminate the Transformer race. When the Spectral Knights attempted to retaliate against them, Cindarr wound up battling Galadria and used his animal totem to defeat her.Cybertron No More
At the conclusion of the crisis, New Prysmos wound up being raised to the surface of Cybertron, Merklynn imprisoned by the Spectral Knights for his crimes. While passing food to his imprisoned leader, Cindarr attempted to boost Merklynn's spirits by informing him that several Darkling Lords were already working on a secret plan to free him. Merklynn glumly told him that it didn't matter anymore. The Curtain
When Unicron attacked Cybertron, the Spectral Knights used their magic to teleport the planet's population to Earth. Though Leoric intended for this to include the Prysmosians so they could fight against the Chaos Bringer, Road's End the entirety of the Prysmosian race was shunted to an untamed grassland, one that Cindarr quickly deduced was prehistoric Prysmos. A World and a Future
Notes
[edit]- Cindarr, of course, hails from the original 1980s Visionaries franchise from Hasbro. The original was much more of a "dumb muscle" archetype; author Magdalene Visaggio, no fan of that trope, thought that it would be a funny twist to reinvent the dense villain into a soft-spoken intellectual.[1]
- When Fico Ossio's concept art of the Visionaries was first revealed, Cindarr was mislabelled as "Reekon", a different Darkling Lord.
- Cindarr was voiced by Peter Cullen in the original cartoon.
