While both releases were Autobots in 1985 (but without any Autobot markings), he became part of the new "Malignus" faction in 1987 and received a "Malignus" sigil decal in [[robot mode]] (and a slight remold to accommodate the sigil).

Camaro was one of the Malignus faction who made their home in the Offworlder section of Axiom Nexus in Nexus 208.0 Epsilon, operating as a gang known as the Malignus Revolutionary Army. He and his buddies attended Gutcruncher's rabble-rousing speech, only to see the orator apparently get slagged by two new Autobot arrivals. Always looking for an excuse to eliminate fascist pigs, Camaro and the Malignus made it their personal mission in life (for the cycle, anyway) to hunt down and kill Jackpot and Hubcap. They lost the Autobots at the rally, but caught up with them again after the 'bots escaped police custody. The sudden arrival of an invisible cop left the Malignus confused about what to do next long enough for their Autobot prey to temporarily electrocute the thugs. The chase scene soon continued, however, with the new addition of Black Shadow, the Crossformer assassin who REALLY offed Gutcruncher, and was looking to eliminate his patsies before they learned too much trying to clear their names. Unfortunately for Black Shadow, he had a Decepticon's gift for monologing, and Hubcap's recording equipment was top of the line. Once Hubcap replayed Black Shadow's arrogant confession, Camaro and the Malignus Revolutionary Army quickly changed targets. The revolutionaries take no assassin prisoner!...especially when they happen to have a Gigantion on their side. Black Shadow became a black smear on the pavement. Gone Too Far

No, not that one.
  • Camaro (Malignus, 1985)
A redeco and slight retooling of the Mini-Vehicle Windcharger, the oddly-named Robocar "Camaro" - most likely stemming from his Trans Am alt mode being confused for a third generation Chevrolet Camaro during the localization process - transforms into a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. He was released only in Brazil by Estrela in two different color schemes: metal-flake blue with pale yellow, and dark purple with lavender robot parts. The mold was also slightly altered to accommodate the new "Malignus" sigil decal in robot mode.
All of the "Optimus/Malignus" Mini Vehicle releases are considered fairly rare, and go for a fairly high price on the secondary market, particularly the secondary color schemes; in this instance, the purple/lavender Camaro goes for more.
The purple/lavender deco of this toy was repurposed as the Shattered Glass incarnation of Windcharger while the blue/yellow deco inspired Shattered Glass Tailgate. This mold was also retooled to make Tailgate and later Rook.

Notes

[edit]
  • The toys from the Brazilian G1 sub-series commonly referred to as "Optimus x Malignus" do not have bios, rather sharing the same names and molds as previous (factionless) Estrela releases, which in turn had the same bios as their Hasbro counterparts, only in Portuguese. As such, it is possible that this wiki page does not merit its own standing because Camaro is basically "evil Windcharger" as opposed to being an independent character.
  • Camaro does not turn into a Camaro. However, out of all the Mini-Vehicles, the Windcharger mold is the only one that comes close to even looking the part.
  • It's also possible he may have been named for his small size; "camaro" likely comes from the Brazilian Portuguese camarão, meaning "shrimp".
