The Micro Trailers were a gimmick introduced by Takara for Return of Convoy, the 1991 line of Japanese Transformers. Since Takara were releasing the previous year's Hasbro product and declined to market any of the Action Masters, this line was completely dominated by the Micromaster play pattern and the Micro Trailers were created to add more play value to it. Every set released in the line, save Grandus and Sixliner, came with a futuristic tractor trailer with the trailer section large enough to fit one Micromaster. They are spring-loaded, and by pressing a tab located below the Micro Trailer's front windows you can shoot a Micromaster across smooth surfaces.
Despite their blocky design the trailers were actually quite versatile. They had connectors on their sides to allow for several to be attached side by side. The post holes could also fit most Micromaster base weapons and accessories. The back ends also feature connectors to attach them to any "W" Team (aka Micromaster Combiner) member. Finally, there was a connection point on the trailer (at the cab end) allowing Microtrailers to be attached to Micromaster bases using the ramping system.
Sky Garry was designed to carry three of these little transports, Star Convoy could carry two in his trailer, while Grandus has space in his "base" mode for one.
Fourteen "different" Micro Trailers were produced, distinguished by the unique stickers that went on the sides of the trailer section. Also, the Micro Trailers that came with Micromaster teams were white, and the ones included with larger figures were black.

- Micro Trailer (no number) (Star Convoy)
- MT-0 (Sky Garry)
- MT-1 (Big Truck Team)
- MT-2 (Hot Rod Team)
- MT-3 (Military Team)
- MT-4 (Shuttle Rocket W Team)
- MT-5 (Fire Tanker W Team)
- MT-6 (Radar Hover W Team)
- MT-7 (Dump Shovel W Team)
- MT-8 (Crane Cannon W Team)
- MT-9 (Jet Tank W Team)
- MT-10 (Rescue Patrol Team)
- MT-11 (Battle Patrol Team)
- MT-12 (Super Car Patrol Team)
Age of the Primes
[edit]
- The Thirteen Star Optimus Prime (Titan Class, 2025)
- TakaraTomy ID number: AOTP-10
- TakaraTomy release date: 2025 August 30
- Known designers: Mark Maher (Hasbro), Shuhei Umezu (TakaraTomy)[1]
- A black Micro Trailer numbered "MT-13" is included with Age of the Primes Titan Class Star Optimus Prime, a new version of Star Convoy. It can carry the also-included Micromaster Hot Rod, be armed with several of Star Optimus Prime's weapons to transform into a battle platform (which resembles the original Rodimus Prime's battle station), or connect to Star Optimus Prime's base mode. When not in use, the vehicle can be stored in one of Star Optimus Prime's legs.
- The Micro Trailer is labeled as "MT-13," both because it comes with the Thirteenth Prime, and in reference to the original Star Convoy coming with the fourteenth, unnumbered entry in Return of Convoy's assortment of Micro Trailers above whose numbering stopped at MT-12.[2] Despite being numbered, it is not physically labeled on the side as the old ones were, instead maintaining the Autobot symbol design from Star Convoy's Micro Trailer.
- Designer commentary on Age of the Primes Star Optimus Prime from Mark Maher on Instagram:
- Machine translation of Star Optimus Prime's TakaraTomy bio
New Legends
[edit]
- Nemesis Star Convoy (ネメシススターコンボイ, 2026)
- ID Number: NL-03
- A sparkly grey, Decepticon-branded redeco of the above Age of the Primes Micro Trailer; bundled with New Legends Nemesis Star Convoy.
Notes
[edit]- As demonstrated above, the 5 mm posts on the Micro Trailers are the exact same dimensions as the later Mini-Con pegs used in Armada.
- Thanks to a list posted to alt.toys.transformers, there is a widespread misbelief that the five other Zone teams were released with the non-existent trailers MT-13 to MT-17.
- When Sky Garry was redecoed into "Deathgarrygun" in the Brave of Gold Goldran series, so too were his three micro trailers. However, in the show, when the Deathgarrygun ships are seen, they all lack the tractor unit of the toy, as well as having symmetrical two entrances per container instead of only one.
