Jazz is an evil Autobot from the Shattered Glass continuity family.

Hey, sucka! Jazz pities the fool, thug, or soul who won't join Optimus Prime in taking over the world. He is the best bodyguard, because he'll take a bullet, he'll take a stab wound, he'll take a hit upside the head; he's like a Kamikaze pilot. There ain't no other like him, except maybe his brother Ricochet, and the two guard Prime from chumps. They treat him right.

Optimus Prime has pitied Jazz ever since intercepted transmissions from Earth influenced his behavior, but he lets Jazz continue so long as he keeps busting up crazy fools.

Shattered Expectations

Jazz was partnered with Goldbug and Grimlock in searching for the Decepticon Pretender technology. After being chastised by Goldbug for "not sticking to the plan", he succeeded in finding the light switch, thus discovering the Decepticon lab containing the Pretender shells, only for Starscream and Razorclaw to appear out of nowhere. Jazz expressed genuine surprise at seeing one of the Predacons, as he believed that they had been destroyed by a shrink ray.

The Decepticon duo were then defeated by Grimlock, and victory seemed inevitable, with no one able to stop them.

Ricochet and Jazz were twin brothers created as part of Optimus Prime's experiment in splitting an ember in two and housing the resultant halves in new bodies. The two brothers were brought online seconds apart. BotCon 2008 Ricochet profile card

Jazz was overseeing the smelting pool when Optimus Prime and Rodimus brought Cliffjumper to Iacon. When Cliffjumper questioned their cruel ways and Prime shot him in retaliation, Jazz joined the others in laughing at his misfortune.

Cliffjumper returned later with the Decepticon forces in a desperate strike against the Ark, and his glass gas bombs were dropped from jets overhead Jazz and Blurr. Jazz told Blurr to get out of his way, 'cuz he ain't gettin' bombed by no plane!

Jazz survived long enough to join Optimus Prime's counteroffensive. Shattered Glass

Jazz and Goldbug were part of the elite Autobots chosen to capture the scattered Dinobots. They succeeded in tracking Swoop to an abandoned observation tower, where they were joined by Rodimus and Blurr. Jazz wanted to just shoot the "flying monster" and be done with it, but Goldbug pointed out that Prime wanted it alive. The Seekers then chose Jazz to climb the tower and retrieve the Dinobot. He wasn't too happy about it.

Swoop thought the visit from Jazz was the best thing ever, and happily took his "new friend" for a joyride clasped in his claws, much to Jazz's extreme dismay. Goldbug ended up getting Jazz down by shooting Swoop's wing, causing them both to fall to the ground. Swoop was overjoyed that Jazz had broken his fall, saying he loved his new friend for doing that. Some time later, as the rebuilt Ark was being readied for departure, Jazz made the mistake of alerting Optimus Prime to Ricochet's scheme. Prime was livid that Ricochet would dare take the honor of capturing Megatron away from him. Prime manhandled Jazz while the bodyguard explained, then threw him across the room before leaving. IDW Shattered Glass comic

Jazz was an early convert to Orion Pax's Autobot movement. As a member of Orion's inner cadre, he attended a meeting with Jetfire to discuss reactivating the dormant Titan Metroplex. Shattered Glass #3

During the Great War, Jazz travelled to Earth alongside Optimus Prime and took part in the final battle against the Decepticons; once Megatron fell and Starscream led the remaining Decepticons into a retreat, Jazz helped his leader lay waste to Earth before returning to Cybertron. At some point after the end of the war, Jazz sided with Goldbug and Prowl during their failed attempt to overthrow Optimus and eventually relocated to Goldbug's capital of Gold City. During Megatron's invasion of the city, he faced off against Reflector. Shattered Glass #5

Jazz was one of many Shattered Glass bots that decided to invade and infiltrate the multiversal clash happening on Quintessa. He's known for being ruthless, and for his love of slaughtering innocent humans.

Part of BotCon 2008's exclusive box set of five figures, Jazz is a retool of Cybertron Crosswise with a new head sculpt and color scheme based on Generation 1 Jazz, though with altered text, most notably replacing "MARTINI" with "MASSACRE". He transforms into a Bugatti Veyron mid-engine sports car. Plugging a Cyber Key into his tailgate (his is a smoky-gray Cybertron-style Autobot key with black border and purple symbol) makes a pair of missile racks pop up from the engine bay and flip over onto his roof, which are also available in robot mode as shoulder-mounted weapons. His car mode's rear panels and running boards can swing forward to become hip-mounted (non-firing) blasters.

Jazz is only available as part of a set of six toys, along with Optimus Prime, Grimlock, Goldbug, Razorclaw, and Starscream.

This mold was also used to make Shattered Glass Ricochet, Cybertron Smokescreen and the live-action movie-continuity Jolt.

Notes

• Unlike most characters depicted in the Shattered Glass universe, Jazz's design does not significantly differ from his positive-polarity self, retaining most of the latter's recognizeable design and color cues. The most significant difference seen is Jazz's visor is occasionally depicted as being colored red as opposed to the original's blue.
• In case you've gotten this far without noticing, Jazz's speech is styled after Mr. T's. This idea was originally part of the April Fools' Day "Shattered Expectations" comic, but when the prank proved amazingly popular, dialog adjustments were made to the real comic accordingly. Moreover, he seems to suffer from a fear of flying like Mr. T's character, B. A. Baracus in the A-Team.
• Ricochet's BotCon bio implies that he and Jazz were originally one being, different in personality to both new individuals. This original individual goes unnamed and undescribed.
• Jazz's appearance in IDW Publishing's comic series is modeled on the Studio Series Deluxe Class Jazz toy.
