On the surface of Unicron, now active once more and closing in on Cybertron, Optimus Prime and Jetfire fight a losing battle against the waves of Terrorcons the chaos-bringer sends against them. Defeated, they are almost consumed by Unicron, until Megatron, deep within the planet-eater's body, starts an assault of his own, destroying critical systems and drawing (inadvertently) Unicron's attention away from the Autobots. Prime recalls all his warriors to Cybertron (including Omega Supreme, who has triumphed over Unicron's Four Horsemen on Mars) to join the battle, even endowing a chosen few with the Spark of Combination.

Attempting to escape Megatron's wrath within Unicron, Alpha Quintesson tries using a space bridge to rejoin the Quintesson fleet, but is killed by the Decepticon leader just as he goes through the portal. His corpse materializes on the bridge of the Quintesson flagship, sending panic through the army, and prompting commander-in-chief Maxa Quintesson to make a decision: with the portal to the parallel-universe Quintessa lying wide open, their homeworld is just as vulnerable to an attack by Unicron as Cybertron is, and so he has all the fleet's power turned away from Cybertron and against Unicron himself! The fleet does not last long against Unicron's might, but they provide enough of a distraction that the Autobot and Decepticon forces are able to rally for one huge final attack. But Optimus Prime knows they don't have to defeat Unicron: they just have to delay him until the seismic-shock warhead planted within him by Avalon detonates and destroys his body!

And detonate it does! Unicron's body erupts in an apocalyptic fireball, releasing a shockwave that implodes the portal to the parallel universe, rocking the whole planet of Cybertron, and leaving Unicron nothing but a floating field of space debris. Of Megatron, there is no sign, the Decepticon leader having apparently failed to escape Unicron's body before it exploded. But he is of little concern now, as a new threat becomes immediately apparent in the wake of the battle: the imploded portal has transformed into a huge black hole, slowly, inexorably pulling Cybertron towards it...!

* Furman's summary makes a reference to Prime and Jetfire combining, presumably the reason Jetfire was selected to aid Prime in his battle on Unicron. Evidently, though, it'd slipped Furman's mind that Prime and Jetfire could only do that in their Armada bodies; they don't have the ability to combine in their Energon forms.

This is Apocrypha

The content of this page is considered to be apocrypha or pseudocanon. Fiction that is considered pseudocanon generally falls into one of two categories. It is most likely either unofficial fiction from an official creator that is so informative as to the creator's thought process and/or so influential to the fandom as to be worth documenting, or fiction that is published in such a way as to render it unofficial, such as fan works published as ancillary or bonus images/fiction with other official work. As such, new ideas and concepts introduced here may not hold true for work that is completely canonical.

It all comes down to the wire as the Autobots, Decepticons and Quintessons all find themselves at each other's throats, just as Unicron makes his terrible return!

Synopsis

[edit]

Emerging through the portal opened by Alpha Quintesson's Initiator, the armies of a parallel-universe Quintessa raze Cybertron as the Autobots and Decepticons on the surface struggle to fight back. Seeking advice, the Omnicons investigate the Hub, the planetary intelligence of Cybertron, and discover a message from Over-Run, uploaded moments before Starscream ended his life. Over-Run informs the Omnicons that they are the missing link in the next stage of the evolutionary chain of Cybertron, the next form of life Transformers must take if they are to survive. But that is the future: right now, their mission is to access the Energon core of Cybertron and channel its power into the planet's entire population, giving them the energy to fight off the Quintesson invaders. But to reach the core, they must unlock the Hub, and to do that, they need a Prime!

Prime and Jetfire take advantage of the distraction to escape to Cybertron, where Prime unlocks the Hub and gives the Omnicons access to the Energon core, allowing them to provide their population-wide energy boost. Prime recalls all his warriors to Cybertron (including Omega Supreme, who has triumphed over Unicron's Four Horsemen on Mars) to join the battle, even endowing a chosen few with the Spark of Combination.

On Earth, Kicker makes like the Omnicons, and uses his own powers to channel the energy of all the Energon on Earth, using it to utterly destroy Demolishor. Kicker then bids farewell to Rad, Carlos and Alexis, as he joins Rodimus, Wing Saber and the other Autobots in traveling through Demolishor's space bridge to join Prime's forces on Cybertron—something to which nobody really objects, given the display of power Kicker has just put on!

Characters are ordered as mentioned in Furman's outline.

(Numbers indicate order of appearance.)

Notes

[edit]
 • This issue was never released. This article's summary is derived from a series of blog posts made by Simon Furman in late 2010.
 • This issue, and the other unreleased issues of Dreamwave's Energon comic, were declared to be "true and accurate" to the Dreamwave Unicron Trilogy universe by a 2015 entry of Ask Vector Prime.

Continuity notes

[edit]
 • This is, naturally, the ending to the Energon storyline, detailing the creation of the black hole that would be the central threat of the sequel series, Cybertron. No unique Cybertron comic was published to follow up this story; "Balancing Act", by Fun Publications included a reference to Over-Run's death at the hands of Starscream, but was otherwise consistently presented as being set in the continuity of the Cybertron cartoon. As is very easy to do in these situations, we blame the Unicron Singularity.

Errors

[edit]
 • Furman's summary makes a reference to Prime and Jetfire combining, presumably the reason Jetfire was selected to aid Prime in his battle on Unicron. Evidently, Furman was thinking about Prime and Jetfire combining as per their Armada bodies; while there was an Optimus figure capable of Powerlinxing with other bots, it was far less notable than the Prime Force Optimus usually merged with.

Other trivia

[edit]
 • Furman's original pitch to subsequent license-holder IDW Publishing included a proposal for a Cybertron title that would specifically follow on from the unfinished Energon comic, directly referring to Unicron's destruction by seismic-shock warhead.
