Once in a prison cell Sunstreaker tries destroying the bars with his hands and laser rockets, but to no avail.  To Sunstreaker's surprise Devastator breaks apart into his six components.  They introduce themselves as the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicon]]s.  Megatron arrives and exchanges sneers with Sunstreaker.  He explains his plan that with an Autobot captured all the rest will surrender.  Sunstreaker responds by shooting at Megatron, hitting him in the head.  In response the Decepticon leader and duo of Constructicons fire back, forcing Sunstreaker to retreat and tend to his wounds in the cell. Megatron orders Soundwave to send a message to the Autobots about Sunstreaker's capture.

Synopsis

[edit]
Wax on, wax off. Wax on, wax off.

Sunstreaker is sitting alone along a riverbank, waxing and shining his chrome, when Devastator steps into his sunlight. On spotting the large Decepticon, Sunstreaker transforms to run, but Devastator steps upon his fenders, damaging them. He transforms again to turn and fight, but is powerless against Devastator. Once he tires out, the giant Decepticon captures Sunstreaker and takes him back to the Decepticon hideout.

Now in a prison cell, Sunstreaker tries destroying the bars with his hands and laser rockets, but to no avail. To Sunstreaker's surprise, Devastator breaks apart into his six components. They introduce themselves as the Constructicons. Megatron arrives and exchanges sneers with Sunstreaker. He explains that with one Autobot captured, all the rest will surrender. Sunstreaker responds by shooting at Megatron, hitting him in the head. In response, the Decepticon leader and duo of Constructicons fire back, forcing Sunstreaker to retreat and tend to his wounds in the cell. Megatron orders Soundwave to send a message to the Autobots about Sunstreaker's capture.

Back at the Autobot camp, the Autobots are getting worried about Sunstreaker's absence. Blaster receives the signal from Megatron, stating they are defenseless against Devastator and must surrender. Sideswipe quickly shouts that he will go rescue Sunstreaker and Grimlock then says he will send Slag and Sludge to go with Sideswipe as backup. Optimus Prime cautions them and explains to them the nature of Devastator's components before they go.

Hey, if you want to army build some Sonic White MP3 Soundwaves...

The trio of Autobots head to the Decepticon hideout, but Sideswipe quickly drives into a land mine. He flips into the air and transforms to save himself. At the Decepticon base, they fight a duo of Decepticon guards who are taken down by "awesome Dinobot weapons".

Once inside, the Autobots run into Devastator. Slag shoots but only angers Devastator. Sludge attempts to aid his fellow Dinobot but both are shot down by the massive Decepticon. Sideswipe then tries to attack Devastator in car mode but Devastator simply sticks out his arm to stop him. All three Autobots are then thrown into the cell with Sunstreaker.

Megatron gloats and orders Hook to rebuild the Autobots into Decepticons. This causes some in-fighting between the Constructicons so Megatron decides to put off the Autobot execution until sunrise. He then sends another message to the Autobots demanding their surrender or else he will rebuild the Autobots into Decepticons.

"'Rumbles are red, Frenzies are blue, Here's a giant butter Devastator for—' ...who wrote this??"

Swoop adamantly says they must surrender to save their fellow Autobots, but Optimus Prime disagrees. He comes up with a new plan which Autobots work all night long on. First, they send a giant Devastator statue over to the Decepticon hideout with the letter:

Megatron, you win. We cannot fight Devastator. We are giving you this statue as a peace offering. We surrender!

Megatron reads the note and promptly declares that the Earth is theirs. He orders the Autobot prisoners to see the statue, but they refuse to believe the other Autobots would surrender. Devastator walks up to the statue and touches it and immediately its head flies off. Swoop leads the Autobots from the statue interior to attack the Decepticons.

Megatron, conqueror of worlds, slayer of Autobots, defeated by a shiny piece of metal.

In his confusion, Devastator splits into his components who go and fight an Autobot each. Swoop continues to bombard the Decepticons from above while the Autobot jets attack the Decepticon jets. On the ground, Rumble opens a fissure in the ground by pounding on it, but doesn't realize that the Decepticons are the ones falling in.

Megatron attempts to end the battle and shoots at Optimus Prime, but Prime grabs a piece of shiny metal from the ground and reflects the blast back at Megatron. The Autobots then grab their wounded and return to base.

Notes

[edit]
One's Jetfire, one's Skyfire.
  • The cover makes no sense. Not only is Bombshell on it, who does not appear in the story, but he and Hook seem scared of Devastator. We won't even attempt to explain how Hook and Devastator can independently exist simultaneously.
  • Laser blasts look like paint guns.
  • Sideswipe refers to Sunstreaker as his "twin Autobot".
  • The Decepticon guards are based off Soundwave's character model and smile when shot.
  • Swoop flies around in robot mode with only his head transformed.
  • Multiple Jetfires appear and are based off the toy.
  • This book follows FIBRIR.
  • Megatron's character model here is based on the preliminary one seen in the first toy commercial and some early Marvel comics.
  • Scavenger never appears in any of the illustration, but must be present by virtue that all six Constructicons are present to form Devastator.
  • Sunstreaker is placed in his cell fully armed, and is even allowed to keep his gun. He must not pose much of a threat!

Real-world references

[edit]
  • The idea of the Autobots pretending to give up and hiding in a statue to sneak into the Decepticons' base is of course inspired by the legend of the Trojan Horse.

Courtesty of my...

[edit]

Unlike the previous book where the Transformers' weapons accurately matched those listed in their bios, here almost everyone fires generic lasers, missiles, and/or laser missiles at each other. Exceptions are listed below.

  • Slag fires a powerful "Dinobot missile" at Devastator.
  • Hook is correctly armed with a laser pistol.
  • In his final confrontation with Optimus Prime, Megatron is armed with a laser cannon. Hilariously, Prime uses a piece of shiny metal to reflect the blast right back at him.
