Wingspan is a Decepticon Clone from the Generation 1 continuity family.
Like a vast, predatory bird...

One might quickly dismiss Wingspan as the weaker of the two Clone brothers, and at first glance that may seem true. After all, Pounce is an elite counter-intelligence agent feared by comrade and foe alike, whereas Wingspan is a rather lowly data processor. In truth, though, Wingspan is just as ruthless and driven as his brother, but merely focuses his efforts on a single goal: knowledge. Wingspan doesn't care if he's surfing the cortex or tearing open an Autobot's chest to stimulate his victim's vocal processor manually, so long as he gets some new information out of it.

Wingspan and Pounce were charged with retrieving the Key to the Plasma Energy Chamber from Autobot City, combining Pounce's infiltration skills with Wingspan's computer savvy to override the protective locks. After disabling the Autobot guard, Punch, Wingspan successfully returned the Key to his leader, and the Decepticons proceeded on to Cybertron. The Rebirth, Part 1

The Decepticon Clones were recruited by Galvatron after betraying their former friends, the Autobot Clones. Mystery of the Space Pirate Ship As Scorponok abandoned Earth in favor of conquering Master, Pounce was one of his many troops seen attacking the planet's fortifications. Miraculous Warriors, Targetmasters (Part 2) The Clones later assisted Scorponok in setting up Death Towers across the Earth. Heavy damage by Sixshot broke their necks The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 1), but they were seemingly repaired and resumed their mission in time for the final battle. Wingspan and Pounce sought vengeance on the world for being treated as lab rats for cloning experiments, and having failed to reach their goal by becoming powerful Decepticons, they returned to the Pirate Planet in 2021 to search for traces of proton energy. Discovering a portal to another dimension and reasoning that the energy must be on the other side, they passed through and discovered Spoilsport, Peacemaker and Pinpointer, who had absorbed the energy and grown super powerful. The Clones saw this as their chance to get their due by conquering the world and seized the Targetmasters, using them to defeat Metroplex. However, they were confronted by their Autobot counterparts who separated them from the Targetmasters and forced them to flee. LG61 Decepticon Clones

Pounce and Wingspan volunteered along with Flywheels for Sixshot's mission to make Hot Rod's weekend more interesting. The outcome of the mission was never revealed. The Test

After using their identical appearances to confuse the Autobots, the pair returned to the derelict destroyer to report to Galvatron. Either Wingspan or Pounce was present on Starscream's asteroid base when Megatron returned to reclaim leadership of the Decepticons. Spotlight: Megatron

Wingspan and Pounce were among the Decepticons in Autobot captivity on Cybertron when the Transformers finally reclaimed their planet. The Death of Optimus Prime Later, Wingspan was among a Cybertronian crowd recruited by Starscream to pressure Prowl into revealing one of his secret discoveries below ground on Cybertron. Later underground, they witnessed a Titan declare that Starscream was the Cybertronian destined to unite their whole race. He and the other Cybertronians celebrated afterwards with Starscream. A nano-virus that afflicted most Autobots save the Targetmasters and the Headmasters required Ricochet to lead a team to Nebulos for an anti-virus. However, the nano-virus was merely a ploy by the Decepticons to draw out the Targetmasters and Headmasters to abduct their Nebulan partners, so when the Autobots arrived on Nebulos, Wingspan and several other Decepticons were waiting for them! Wingspan met with Soundwave's Neo-Decepticons at Fort Scyk. Counterpoint

While manning the Civil Defense Hub at Iacon during Scorponok's insurrection, the Clones detected Ultra Magnus and the Valiant returned from their Earth mission. They planned to lure the unsuspecting Autobots into range and then blow them out of the sky. Natural Selection, Part Four The free remaining Autobots on Cybertron managed to retake the Hub, however, capturing Pounce and Wingspan. When the preprogrammed missiles began flying at the Valiant, Crosshairs demanded the pass-code from Pounce. Blue Bird of Blockyness
Released in the fourth year of Hasbro's US The Transformers toyline (third year in Europe and in Takara's Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers line), Decepticon Clone Wingspan transforms into a robotic hawk. His robot mode is (mostly) identical to his Clone brother Pounce (from the front at least). Wingspan also has two heat-sensitive rubsigns on his torso: the one on his groin reveals the traditional Decepticon symbol, while the one on his chest reveals an hawk head and wings image, indicating which Clone he is. This is especially useful for those times when you can't just turn him over and see the wings on his back, assuming you haven't removed them.
His twin "electro-burst rifles" can be mounted on his hawk-mode back via 5 mm posts; his wings have 5 mm holes in the bases above the 5 mm posts that attach them to his body.
The Chinese release of Pounce[2] and Wingspan[3], released in 1993, lacks the "hawk" rubsign, which has been replaced with a foil Decepticon insignia sticker.
He was only available in a two-pack with his brother/fellow Clone, Pounce.

Part of the fifth assortment of Kre-O blind-bagged Kreon Micro-Changers (aka "Age of Extinction Collection 1"), "Wingspan Hawk" can be rebuilt from robot mode into a hawk... though really, all you're doing is repositioning the wing-pieces slightly and putting some claw pieces in the soles of his feet.
This series of Micro-Changers ended up being functionally a Toys"R"Us exclusive (as most of the entire Kre-O series was at that point) in the US, until it began to filter into "closeout"/budget stores like Five Below.


Titans Return

Released as part of the Titans Return line, Wingspan is a fairly hefty retool of "Decepticon Pounce", transforming from a robot to a mechanical hawk. His hawk-mode back can accommodate Titan Master figures, who can ride just behind his head. As with all four of the Clones in this line, Wingspan has a (non-heat-sensitive) painted symbol evoking his original "hawk" rubsign.
Wingspan was only available in a two-pack with the Autobot Clone Cloudraker. In the United States, this set was exclusive to Walgreens pharmacies (officially called the "Clones 2-figure Pack" on their website). Several overseas releases predated the US release: in Taiwan, it was available at general retail; in Canada, it was exclusive to EB Games stores; in Mexico, it was exclusive to Julio Cepeda stores; and in Colombia, it was exclusive to Falabella stores.

Sold in the twenty-sixth have of TakaraTomy's Legends toyline, this release of Wingspan is a redeco of his Titans Return toy with a higher-contrast color layout based on his appearance in the Headmasters anime.
He was only available in a two-pack with Pounce. This pack includes the mini-comic Legends Bonus Edition Vol. 61.


War for Cybertron: Earthrise

Wingspan and his brother "Decepticon Pounce" received a re-release as a two-pack for the Earthrise: Cybertronian Villains subline. The decoes of both figures are identical, or near-identical, to those from TakaraTomy's Legends Clonetron Set.
Like all Earthrise toys, the inside of the back of the packaging includes an exclusive clip-and-save piece of a larger star map. Also in the box is a thin red piece of transparent plastic with which to read the star map. The Decepticon clones' piece of the map contains the labeled location of the planet "AQUATRON".
This set was released as a Target exclusive in the USA, a Toys"R"Us exclusive in Canada, and an Amazon exclusive in Europe. The set ultimately became a heavy shelfwarmer at Targets, to the point unsold stock was set up in non-Transformers-related aisles.
