The end of an era.
Synopsis
The GoBots awaken from their recharge and repairs, each one wondering if they will be selected for the mission to go and meet the Caretaker and save their world.
Metalhawk introduces them to Skyklik, who will pilot the Micromaster Transport for the GoBot team. They notice that he seems…diagonal, but Skyklik assures them that it’s just a stabilizer malfunction. He also admits to having not remembering his name or any of his past since the Autobots found him during the temporal disaster caused by Ultra Magnus. The GoBots express concern about letting a wounded amnesiac pilot them to the only place that can save their world, but Metalhawk assures them that he is capable.
Path Finder reveals that the team for the mission will be herself, Buggy Man, Bad Boy, Small Foot, and Road Rager. Treds is disappointed in not being included, Man-O-War is looking forward to spending time at the base in safety, and Rest-Q tells them that he’ll get to them as soon as possible. Metalhawk warns the team about a possible attack from the Shatteredverse Autobots, since Stepper escaped his cell. In order to best protect the team from such an attack, Buggy Man volunteers to use R-Navi to communicate with the team so that Treds can take his place. Treds and the rest of the team agrees, not noticing that Buggy Man is oddly happy at being left behind…
Onboard the Micromaster Transport, Small Foot has a dream of the people of Gobotron celebrating her return. A mysterious voice urges her to continue the mission. When she wakes up, Solarbot, currently inhabiting her, tells her that her dream was probably caused by Wheeljack’s transdimensional communicator. The GoBots ask Solarbot about what it’s like being a being made of energy, and worry if his inhabitation will badly effect Small Foot. He explains that the inhabitation is perfectly safe, though the host usually feels some light euphoria. He offers to inhabit Bad Boy so that he can see for himself, but Bad Boy turns him down.
The Micromaster Transport is then rocked by explosions. The team scrambles to escape the Transport, and Solarbot protects the crew with a forcefield so they can get back down to solid ground. The cause turns out to be Shatteredverse Drift, seeking revenge for his “deceased” comrade Stepper. He reveals that he, and other Shatteredverse Autobots, can track Solarbot’s energy and reinforcements are coming. Treds takes the blame for “killing” Stepper and volunteers to keep Drift busy. Unsure if they should go on without Treds, they suddenly hear a loud noise…
Treds life flashes before his eyes. Bad Boy watches the fight from above as something shoots past him. The rest of the GoBots are shocked to see that Treds is fine and Drift is inactive. They all congratulate Treds on beating Drift and begin to head towards the Caretaker’s location, not knowing where Skyklik has ended up. Treds takes Solarbot to the side and asks him how Solarbot beat Drift. Solarbot admits that he used one of Drifts own bullets to stop him.
They reach the location where the Caretaker should be, but only find a open clearing. Almost ready to start digging, Solarbot tries to reach out to the supercomputer. Solarbot is able to connect with the Caretaker and creates a opening to a cavern filled with carvings of a familiar set of Transformers. The Caretaker welcomes everyone and reveals that it already knows of the crisises facing their homeworlds and the solution has already happened in the future. The Caretaker reveals that in order to save their worlds, the Solarbot and one of the GoBots has to give up their individuality and combine into a new being, so that they can combine their experiences and find their own solution. The GoBots are shocked, but the Solarbot reveals that it has always felt a kinship with the GoBots and that this was meant to happen. Path Finder initially volunteers herself, since she’s team leader, but Small Foot insists on being the one to do it. The rest of the GoBots give her encouragement. Small Foot and Solarbot step into the portal, but not before leaving a message with Path Finder.
In an empty void, Solarbot hears a voice telling him to come with him once more.
Back on Gobotron, reality itself is starting to unravel. Riots are breaking out everywhere. A Renegade named Crasher is about to beat up the Guardian Mr. Moto when a beam of light passes over her and makes her feel at peace, leading to her leaving the Guardian unmolested. Cy-Kill witnesses the beam of light slowly healing Gobotron from his fortress. He suddenly feels more like reading than leading the Renegades. Zero, shielded from the warm light, can’t seem to communicate with his agents Buggy Man or Skyklik to coordinate an attack on the Autobot’s Ironworks Base, but still vows to one day lead a new order of Renegades. A sun appears in the sky of Gobotron and everyone somehow knows that everything will be alright. Celebrations begin. The day is known in GoBot history as the Solar Rhapsody.
Meanwhile, on Earth, Soundwave and Blitzwing exit the Dancitron. Blitzwing is starting to like Earth music, but Soundwave’s had a bit too much fun. Soundwave had been telling Blitzwing about meeting the GoBots and is wondering how they’re doing. Blitzwing is sure that it all worked out, Soundwave wonders why the sun comes up so early, and the sun greets a new day.

Quotes
“Hey, Skyklik. I’m Small Foot. Y’know, I wouldn’t have guessed you were a pilot...You seem, um...”
“Diagonal.”
- — Smallfoot and Solarbot say that alcohol and piloting don't mix.
“Commander Metalhawk, I must question whether this amnesiac, semi-functional Transformer of unknown origin is the best choice as our pilot?”
- — Man-O-War, ableist or genre savant?
“Bad Boy, would you like me to attempt fusion with you? My contact with Small Foot was in fact coincidental, and is naturally not limited to females or Guardians.”
“Uh... Yeeeeah...”
- — Solarbot propositions Bad Boy.
“The time for my vengeance has arrived. Yurusarezarumonoyo!”
- — Drift
“Take a moment to reflect on the events of the past three days, from your own limited viewpoint. You began your journey, braving hardship to come into contact with the Transformers. In doing so, you met one another. In just three short days, an infinitesimally small unit of time even by the standards of Earth, you have grown and changed. Shared experience has made you different beings than when you left your homes. Now, the answer you seek is not within the Transformers, or my computer network. It is within each of you, the Gobots and Solarbots. Now, the time has come for you join together and return home."
- — Caretaker
"Optimism. That’s what I brought to the team. When I left my little town to join the Guardians, that’s all I had with me. Instead of going off to war, I believed I was setting out on a great adventure. Just like when we left on this mission together. If I could bring just a little light to everyone, then that was enough for me.”
- — Small Foot makes a big last impression.
Notes
- This is the last prose story released by Fun Publications under the Transformers license, as it was posted on the very last day they held it. Indeed, within the last 20 minutes, at least within the Eastern Time Zone.
- The members appearing in this story were determined by fan-vote via hashtags on Facebook From November 23 until November 31 of 2016.
- Buggyman volunteering to stay behind so that Treds can go on the mission is apparently a reference to the Japanese fans and the American fans polled wanted slightly different characters for this story.
- Drift says that he changed personalities completely when he came to Earth. This is a reference to his completely different, Deadpool-inspired personality from his toy bio and previous club stories. How this lines up with his past with Overlord-dono is…unclear.
- Skyklik disappears from the story, never to be seen again.
- We never learn what Small Foot whispered to Path Finder
- Drift's Samurai Gunman schtick is a reference to the anime Ninja Slayer.
Errors
- There is no November 31. But reality itself was breaking down, so we can forgive them, I guess.
- The transition break on the top of page 28 should be a line up, on the bottom of page 27.
Continuity notes
- Stepper was swallowed up by a random interdimensional portal in the previous story. He was noted to work with Drift in his toy's profile card.
Transformers references
- Skyklik is based on the Diaclone jet-helicopter triple changer, as is Rotorbolt from the Club story "The Truth We Make" released in thes same year. Whether or not the amnesiac Skyklik actually IS a version of Rotorbolt was left deliberately ambiguous by the author.[1]
GoBots references
- Apparently, the Caretaker sounds a little like High Protector Zeemon
- Screw Head, Turbo, Scooter, and Doctor Go are mentioned.
References
- Shatteredverse Drift’s martial art of Kita Kyushu is a reference to Kitakyushu, a city in Japan.
- Drift's Sakamoto Rifle is a reference to either Ryoma Sakamoto, Japanese revolutionary, or Hayato Sakamoto, the Japanese Transformers writer…or both.
- Shatteredverse Overlord’s Musashi Sword is a reference to Miyamoto Musashi
- Drift makes a habit of speaking some random Japanese throughout the story:
Detekiyagattana:I Came out
Yurusarezarumonoyo:You are not forgiven
Hayamaruna:Do not be Hasty!
Hyakupatsu, hyakuchu:100 shots, 100 hits
Taishitamonda:What a Big Deal
Taiyo-no-ko:Child of the Sun
Me ni wa Me:An Eye for an Eye
Katakiuchi:Revenge
Bureimono: Rude Person
Overlord-Dono: Lord Overlord
Sadame: Destiny…also, Judgement, Law, Regulation….
