The Thing is a human from the Marvel portion of the Crossovers continuity family.

The Thing says it's clobberin' time. First on the list is his Fantastic Four teammate Reed Richards for not designing him his own mech but rather reusing that of his long time rival, the Hulk.

Combat Colin

The Thing attended Colin and Steve's Christmas party in the Combat Shed, where he was seen wearing a paper hat and hanging around the buffet with a Dalek. Christmas with Combat Colin

It's cancelin' time!
  • Thing (Marvel, 2010)
The Thing was to have been a retool of the Hulk with a new head, transforming from an orange and blue robot into a bulldozer. This toy was presented by Hasbro during San Diego Comic-Con 2009, but failed to materialize at retail.
It's feasible that Thing was the intended character for this mold rather than the Hulk; the robot mode of the Hulk is riddled with crack details which are a physical feature of Thing. Additionally, molded details on the figure's waist that seem to be for a Fantastic 4 logo are left flat and empty on Hulk.
The head is just a straight reuse of the first Hulk Transformer which was likely as a cost-cutting measure due to changing the mold from Thing to Hulk late in the design process. As Hulk is a more popular character than the Thing, Hasbro probably figured another version of Hulk would sell better than one of Thing.
