Beafox

Beafox is an Autobot-allied Beastformer from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Fair, balanced, and razor-wielding.

When the rebellion began on planet Beast, Beafox (ビーフォックス Bīfokkusu) leapt into action against the Decepticon-backed insurgents with a fury unmatched among his comrades. But while he was seemingly fueled by anger, he wasn't a mere berserker. His specialty is sneak attacks, attacking from unconventional angles and designing mechanical traps to ensnare his targets. In fact, he's almost elevated it into an art form, spending ample time plotting his moves, aiming to impress his allies and humiliate his enemies with his elaborate schemes.

He has the ability to see up to two kilometers away, at night, and boasts an incredibly wide field of vision, allowing him to locate his prey with ease. And as one of the best leapers on the planet, he can launch himself at foes from a great distance for terrifying surprise attacks. And if he needs some extra oomph, if he properly charges up his Beastarr (ビースター Bīsutā) MVP Weapon, it allows him to streak through the air like a missile, slicing through whatever's in his path.

Upon taking the throne of Ringostan as its King following the Great War, he found himself needing to get over his hatred of those who fought on the other side, as he had to work with the former rebel Devilbat, who now serves as his subordinate Emperor. Devilbat's easygoing nature may have helped smooth things over, as the two nocturnal warriors have managed to develop an impressive working relationship... at least as far as nighttime assaults on enemies of their nation go.

The Beafoxes were a species of Beastformer, part of White Leo's rebels, fighting against the Decepticons and their allies, Alligatron and the evil Beasts. However, some were kidnapped and used as slaves to construct components of Scorponok's transtector. A few Beafoxes were part of an unsuccessful attack by the rebels on the Decepticon stronghold. They got shot down and the rebels were forced into retreat. Later, a few Beafoxes were there to welcome their Autobot saviors.

The enslaved Beafox were saved by the efforts of Wheelie, Daniel, and the Monsterbots. Meanwhile, a Beafox was part of a force led by White Leo to rescue those very same slaves. The two groups joined together and emerged outside to see the Decepticon Transformers in retreat. A Beafox, with other rebels, saw off the Autobots. Rebellion on Planet Beast

Beafox, among others, was menaced by Predaking and the Sharkticons, led by Alligatron. They were able to escape when Brainstorm and Highbrow distracted the giant combiner. The Decisive Battle of Planet Beast!

Part of the first series of Takara's Beastformers toys, Beafox is an anthropomorphic fox in white robotic armor. The Battle Emblem on his chest reveals one of three symbols when warmed up; Fire, Water or Wood.

He was re-released in both the second and series; while the toy proper was not changed, the packaging and packed-in bio card was. The first-series release comes in a generic red-grid "Cybertron Beastformer" box, with a red-grid bio card with a painted character image on the front, though there was a random chance of his card being replaced by the rare "Holography Mirror" card. In series 2 he came in a green-grid generic "Cybetron Beastformer" box, with the bio card putting the painted image on a jungle backdrop. As he shipped in the "C Pack" case, there was a chance of his bio card being replaced with a rare "Secret Photo" card featuring White Leo. The third-series "E Pack" release is entirely unchanged (save the Pack letter on the box-flap), but this time he could come with the rare "Vs Holography Mirror" card.

Re-released in the Transformers-less Beastformers sequel series, Beafox was given a straight re-release with new packaging and a new, more filled-out bio card with corrected coloring. This new card also gave his weapon, now branded an "MVP Weapon", the name "Beastarr".

He was sold in the second assortment of individually-packed Beastformers, with a peg-hole in the top flap, and a sticker on the bottom with his name and role on it. This series did not have any kind of "rare card" random pack-in promotion. Samples of Beafox (among others) have also been found on simple bubble cards, with the bio card positioned so the name shows clearly under the figure's feet, but it is uncertain if this style of packaging was ever properly sold at retail.

Later in the run, the "mood ring" styled rubsigns were replaced with new rubsigns that revealed full-color Fire/Wood/Water images on black backdrops. (These rubsign variants also happened at the same time in the Hasbro Battle Beast version of the line.)

Many of the first-series Beastformers were also sold in gashapon capsule machines, Beafox included. This version is identical to the regularly-released boxed version, including the randomized rubsign, except the gashapons appear to have randomized weapons (or just crummy quality control).

There is also a rare all-white/cream version of Beafox; these rare versions can vary in how white they actually are, and it's uncertain if that's how they started or if some have simply yellowed with age. These white versions tend to be very expensive on the secondary market.

Meiji candy toys

A small, super-deformed, articulation-free version of Beafox was sold both as a gashapon capsule prize by Takara (three per capsule for 200 yen), and as a candy toy with chocolate-coated cereal-like corn puff "chocoballs" through the candy/snack company Meiji (two toys per box, for 100 yen). This stumpy lil fellow could be found in red, blue or green plastic, representing the Fire, Water and Wood elements (even though he still had a rubsign). All of the Meji Beastformers come with a different Beastformer's weapon attached to their shoulder by a snippable sprue. Beafox came with White Leo's "White Beamer" weapon, while Deaspider came with Beafox's "Beastarrr".

The interior of each chocoballs box contains super-brief bio data for two of the twenty possible beasts, as well as rules for three different styles of game: the traditional Fire/Wood/Water deal, a "flick the figures and knock your opponent over" deal, and a more involved game that requires character data from Meiji's other candy-based Beastformers merch, the Battle Cards (see below).

A gold-foil "Battle Card" of Beafox, featuring his painted character art from his Transformers: Beastformers bio card, was available in randomly-packed sets of cards that came with ramune-flavored candy tablets. The back of the card features a severely truncated bio, with data for the game from the Meiji chocoball SD figures' packaging.

Notes

• His 1988 bio gives him the nickname "Bea" (ビー Bī), and notes that he was born in Starr City... because "Ringo", you see.
