Sky Blast (G1)

Sky Blast is an Autobot from the IDW portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

"No swindling or brawling, and don't even think about vortex-ing!"

Sky Blast is a hothead with an insatiable Energon lust. He's always got his guns ready to mow down any Decepticon. "BLAST OFF!"

Fiction

IDW Generation 1 continuity

Receiving his name for his skill at annihilating people, Sky Blast was placed under Ultra Magnus's command along with Bumblebee. He did not get along with his commanding officer.

In the mid-19th century, the trio found a group of Decepticons in the Zugzwang Cluster and destroyed them. When Bumblebee and Magnus went to investigate, they found the wreckage of a Galactic Council ship. Accessing the navigational computer, they found the ship had been headed to Xetaxxis. After a week of searching, the three found the planet and Sky Blast stayed with the ship while the other two boarded Orchid Crossing to stop Starscream.

"Boy, Morty, I really Cronenberged the world up, didn't I?"

From the ship, Sky Blast read that the station was only being held together by its forcefield and asked if everything was okay. Despite Magnus saying it was, Sky Blast boarded anyway and shot at Stardrive after she'd attacked Bumblebee thinking her a Decepticon. He ignored the disgusting organics however which proved his undoing as one of them merged with him. The Wraith/Cybertronian abomination tore apart Doomwings before it attacked the Space Knights. To try and kill the beast and offer Sky Blast a last mercy, Magnus shut down Orchid Crossing's forcefield to destroy the station in atmospheric reentry and burn up the creature. The Armada Sky Blast toy doubles as the IDW Generation 1 character Sky Blast.

Sky Blast transforms into a multi-thruster rocket based on the Vostok Rocket. He is designed to be carried on his teammate Payload's truck-mode. He also forms the main chamber of the combined Requiem Blaster weapon. He was only available in the Space Team set with Astroscope and Payload.

The Space Team was put in "clamshell" packaging with other Mini-Con teams as "bonus buy" packs in several different store chains, including the Adventure Mini-Con Team, Night Attack Mini-Con Team, and Road Assault Mini-Con Team.

This mold was used to make Backblast. It was slated for a few other redecoes that were ultimately not released.

Notes

• Sky Blast is, of course, an import—and super-sizing—of the Armada character of the same name. He even has the same annoying catchphrase which is probably why he's erroneously listed as "Blast Off" on the "Roll Call" page.
