- Autobot Cars are a subgroup from the toyline portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Autobot Cars are a subgroup of Autobots. They transform into cars, except when they turn into trucks. They are larger than Mini Autobots. This designation was used primarily in reference to the toyline, and was not reflected as an official subgroup within the comics or animation.
The first two years worth of cars were all based on Diaclone toy molds. The 1986 releases were original molds based on character designs from The Transformers: The Movie.

Members include:
1984 releases
- Bluestreak — Gunner
- Hound — Scout
- Ironhide — Security
- Jazz — Special Operations
- Mirage — Spy
- Optimus Prime — Commander (Japanese release only)[1]
- Prowl — Military Strategist and Analyst
- Ratchet — Medic
- Sideswipe — Warrior
- Sunstreaker — Warrior
- Trailbreaker — Defensive Strategist
- Wheeljack — Mechanical Engineer

1985 releases
- Grapple — Architect
- Hoist — Maintenance
- Inferno — Search and Rescue
- Red Alert — Security Director
- Skids — Theoretician[2]
- Smokescreen — Diversionary Tactician
- Tracks — Warrior
All of the 1984 Cars were made available again in 1985.

1986 releases
All of the earlier Cars were discontinued in 1986.

Conversely, the Decepticons had their own generic designation of Decepticon Planes for the line of toys that turned into jets. The canonical group term "Seeker" includes most of the Decepticon Planes. However, the Plane subgroup also included Cyclonus and Scourge in 1986, both of whom were absorbed into the Targetmaster subgroup in 1987.
Notes
- The original pre-1986 Autobot Cars were called Car Robots when they originated in the Japanese Diaclone toyline.
- All of the Autobot Cars characters have been recreated in more modern toy lines such as Classics, Universe, Generations, and Reveal the Shield.
Foreign names
- Japanese: Autobot (オートボット Ōtobotto)
