The Federation is an interstellar union that includes humans, Andorians, Vulcans, and various other species. They don't get along with their neighbors in the Klingon Empire.

Certain Federation vessels, such as USS Enterprise, belong to an organization known as Starfleet.

The Federation operated a dilithium mine on Cygnus Seven, within their territory but near their border with the Klingons.
