Synopsis

Outside the Threshold of the AllSpark, the battle between Autobots and Decepticons rages on. Optimus Prime and Megatron brawl, the Autobot leader throwing his enemy around as he vows that Megatron will not stop him from reaching the AllSpark. However, as Optimus walks inside the building, Megatron makes no effort to stop him, merely remarking that he will not. Once inside, the reason for Megatron's comment becomes clear: the Threshold is filled with Scraplets. The sight of the creatures causes Optimus to flash back to his previous encounter with them, and he contacts Windblade to tell her they need an alternate route. Megatron reappears, blocking Optimus's exit.

Outside, Windblade contacts Teletraan-X, who was lurking behind the building's columns. She asks the computer if it has any knowledge of alternate paths in, which it confirms there are not: the Threshold was designed to be the only access to the Well of the AllSpark. As Windblade curses their lot, X notes that it is detecting two Autobot energy signatures down below, the imprisoned Chromia and Perceptor. Using her Cityspeaker powers, Windblade reaches out to the imprisoned Chromia. Overjoyed to see her friend is alive, Chromia tells Windblade she can help with a way to the Well.

Back up on the surface, Hot Rod receives a signal from Windblade informing him of what Chromia has discovered, and he tells "Team Hot Rod" to move out. As the trio make their way to a secret tunnel, they are observed by Drift, who follows after them.

Elsewhere, Megatron pins Optimus to a wall, and gloats about how long he has been back on Cybertron, asking Prime if he thought he would not be prepared. At his signal, several gargantuan versions of Shockwave's drones appear. Despite Optimus's attempts to fight, the Autobots are swiftly corralled.

Down below, Team Hot Rod goes further into the depths of Cybertron. Their path takes them to a long abandoned area, once filled with rivers of energon, dried up from the AllSpark's absence. Bumblebee uses his scanner to detect their way to the Well of the AllSpark, narrowly avoiding stepping in the now toxic energon puddles. As the trio continue, Drift catches up with them, noting their attempt to sneak in through the back door.

Unfortunately, Drift suddenly draws his sword and tries to attack Cheetor only for Hot Rod to intervene, blasting Drift with his flames. As Bumblebee and Cheetor flee under Hot Rod's orders, Drift reveals his supposed shift in allegiance was a lie all along. Once a Decepticon, always a Decepticon. The two fight, but Drift soon manages to land a serious wound on Hot Rod. Vowing to take his opponent down with him, Hot Rod grabs Drift and drags him into the toxic energon, which they soon sink into.

A short distance away, Bumblebee and Cheetor enter a new, jungle-like area. Enraptured, Bumblebee tries contacting Hot Rod, and gets no response. The two are forced to conclude that Hot Rod is gone. Cheetor tries to reassure Bumblebee about his friend's sacrifice, but Bumblebee is too despondent to acknowledge him. As Cheetor ponders about their location and ponders whether they are lost, something grabs Bumblebee. Transforming into beast mode, Cheetor sets off in search of his friend.

Back at Iacon City, Teletraan-X finds Vector Sigma and informs Windblade, who contacts Wheeljack, asking if he would like to really stick things to Megatron. Windblade and X enter the Threshold, where Vector Sigma is waiting. Windblade's plan is to have Wheeljack destroy Vector Sigma.

At that moment, Bludgeon appears and slices at Teletraan-X, disabling it. The Cityspeaker goes for round two with the 'con who coldly murdered Slipstream only to find herself disarmed. Bludgeon leaps up into the air and descends toward Windblade for the killing blow!

To be concluded...

Quotes

Hot Rod: Activate Team Hot Rod!
Cheetor & Bumblebee: "Team Hot Rod?"
Cheetor: Is that us?

"Never trust a Decepticon."
"I never liked you anyway."

Drift and Hot Rod exchange banter (of a sort).

Notes

Continuity notes

  • Megatron mentions that he has been home for a long time, referencing the Decepticons using the space bridge in "Escape From Earth."
  • Drift "defected" back in "Maccadam's." His true allegiances were hinted at in his response to Hot Rod in the opener.
  • Bludgeon, last shown hovering away in "Secret Science", shows up to defend Vector Sigma.
