In combat, some Decepticons prefer to use melee weapons, while others prefer ranged weapons. Blackout prefers both, as his rotor blaster shows. In melee combat, the blades of his helicopter form, made of toughened cobalt and spinning at 6,000 RPM, will slice through any Autobot foolish enough to approach him. For distance attacks, the rotor blaster contains a thunderclap concussion blast cap, releasing a sonic blast of 7000 decibels at a range of up to 2.9 miles. However, to protect himself, Blackout shuts down all Audio sensors in weapons mode. He still receives internal comm chatter from his fellow Decepticons, but cannot hear anything else around him. As such, one can sneak up on him, as long as he doesn't see you targeting him.<ref>Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: The Movie Universe</ref>
