Sam Smith is the current Hasbro Design Manager on the Studio Series, Masterpiece, and mainline Generations (the War for Cybertron Trilogy, Legacy, etc) toylines. Whether by choice or as a practical consequence of the sheer breadth of modern Generations product, he seemingly utilizes a more horizontal command structure than past department heads, taking point on the primary live-action film series component of the Studio Series line and largely leaving the more traditional Generation 1 flavored fare to Associate Designer Evan Brooks and current overall Generations design lead Mark Maher. Smith's status as the resident gearhead of the design team may or may not constitute an ulterior motive for this particular division of labor. He used to work on Star Wars.
