Kunio Okawara (大河原 邦男 Okawara Kunio, born December 26, 1947) is a mechanical designer in the anime industry, notable as being the first person to be credited as such. Most famous for creating the designs for the Gundam series, the Brave series, Daitarn 3, as well as Armored Trooper VOTOMS. Putting it mildly, he's worked on more mecha anime than we can list here!
He was brought on by Takara during the mid-to-late 1980s to contribute to Transformers designs.

- He got his start in the industry working for Tatsunoko Production
- His mechanical designs have been the focus of multiple exhibitions in Japan. Among the guests of "Mechanic Designer Okawara Kunio Exhibition" in 2015 were Hisashi Yuki and Munetaka Abe, who discussed Okawara's contributions to Brave, as well as the creation of Masterpiece Star Saber.[1]
