Cross

Cross is a vampire from CVO: Covert Vampiric Operations.

Stephen Cross, codename Cross, is a tortured hero with a tragic past. He also happens to be a vampire and a member of Covert Vampiric Operations, for which he works as a team leader. He has a developing thing for Britt, which at times gets in the way of him doing his job. He also has a reckless streak a mile wide.

Fiction

CVO: Covert Vampiric Operations

After experiencing a dream about his former friend attacking his former wife and son, and the latter two turning into zombies, Cross was called by Britt to a briefing. With the news that zombies were overrunning the CVO Kirtland complex, Cross led a team there with the intention of shutting the dimensional portal the zombies were pouring through. Unfortunately team zombie Benny was overcome by the Undermind and they had to take to the ventilation ducts. They discovered a room full of robot mechs, but while they were getting them working, Britt succumbed to a zombie bite and became a vampire/zombie hybrid. Cross and Bools got one of the warbots working and attempted to stop her. They failed and the Undermind sent portions of Britt's essence to other realities. A short time later, the site was bombed by the US military, but Cross and his team managed to teleport out via artillica before the explosions started. While Benny attempted to tend to Britt, Cross and Bools took some warbots to help the President. Unfortunately when Britt recovered, it was as a powerful agent of the Undermind, and in an act of desperation, Cross had Benny bite him, transforming himself into a similarly powerful vampire/zombie hybrid while retaining his own self-control. Battling Britt, he stabbed her with a knife and followed that up by rewriting the laws of magic in order to erase the Undermind. He disappeared in the process and was presumed dead by CVO. He was later back with CVO when a giant multi-eyed worm creature dropped on Cross Plains, Texas, and went to investigate with Britt and Bools. He powered up the Artillica in his undead heart—the only one left in existence—and dispatched it, however a short time later the Elder Gods attempted to use his heart as a conduit to cross into multiple realities. Infestation 2 #1 CVO leader Overmars attempted to take out Cross by using a drone, but the creature protected him.

Eventually, Britt and Bools returned. Knowing what must be done, Cross allowed Britt to rip out his artillica-infused heart. With the Relic, the heart was used to close the portal that the Elder Gods were using. Cross later woke up at CVO headquarters, having apparently gained a "phantom heart", although one that looked very suspicous... Infestation 2 #2
