Green Chameles is a Beastformer from the Generation 1 continuity family.

What he lacks in physical strength, Green Chameles (グリーンカメレス Gurīn Kameresu) more than makes up for in ambition and inventiveness. With the ability to change his colors to match his surroundings, as well as create mirages with his electromagnetic Magneleon (マグネレオン Magunereon) MVP Weapon, he lies in wait to attack unaware opponents, aiming to strike the first and only blow in a fight. A beast of utterly evil intent, he is a firm believer in Alligatron's quest to rule planet Beast, and does all he can to make that goal a reality, always pushing himself to improve his skills, to learn more, to go beyond his boundaries, to more quickly adapt to new situations.

Following the war, he returned to his home island of Onomis to rule as its Emperor, serving under the considerably less-ambitious King Iguanamonss. The igunana's reluctance to try anything outside his comfort zone might seem at first to be sore point for Chameles, but it is in fact the opposite: it gives him another opportunity to hone his own skills, this time as a strategist and planner, working around his superior's hesitance and providing plans that make the reluctant ruler more proactive and effective.

Fiction

Beastformers pack-in material

At some point in the great war, Green Chameles entered the Holography Mirror, intent on killing Platinum Tiger, who had been trapped within it but was still helping White Leo through the device.

Legends comic

In 2038, the then-peaceful Beast was invaded by Galvatron II's Decepticons. Green Chameles was part of the joint Beastformer-Laser Beast alliance that fought against the invaders. He worked alongside Grotusque and Doublecross at one point. The Road to Legends' Revival Chapter 3

Toys

Transformers: Beastformers

  • Green Chameles (Beastformer, 1987)
  • ID number: 34
  • Pack: E
  • Accessories: Claw-blade (usually)
Part of the third series of Takara's Beastformers toys, Green Chameles is an anthopomorphic chameleon in blue robotic armor. The Battle Emblem on his chest reveals one of three symbols when warmed up; Fire, Water or Wood.
He usually comes with a gold claw weapon marked with the same ID number as on his back. However, Beastformers is notorious for toys coming with someone else's weapon; it's unclear if this was just originally poor QC, but in the sequel series, this semi-random weaponry was actually turned into a "gimmick".
He was only available in the "E Pack" assortment, and came in a green-grid generic "Destron Beastformer" box. He came with a bio card with a comic-style character image on a jungle backdrop, though there was a chance his bio card would instead be replaced with the rare "VS Holography Mirror" card featuring himself and Platinum Tiger.

Merchandise

Meiji candy toys

  • Ramune Beastformers Battle Card (1988)
    • Meiji ID number: 36
A gold-foil "Battle Card" of Green Chameles, featuring painted character art of the kind found on early Transformers: Beastformers bio cards (seen at top), was available in randomly-packed sets of cards that came with ramune-flavored candy tablets. The back of the card features a severely truncated bio, with data for the game from the Meiji chocoball SD figures' packaging.
Though this card shows line-art of a super-deformed Green Chameles toy, no actual toy was ever produced.

Notes

  • Chameles's comic-style character art (also used in Hasbro Battle Beasts materials) shows him carrying an unidentifiable gold weapon-thing that is completely not his nominal twin-blade weapon, plus it shows him with an odd two-digit claw instead of a "normal" left hand. His 1988 art corrects both of these mistakes.
  • As he was not sold in the post-Transformers sequel series and thus had no bio card, his "RPG"-era bio comes from the Hero Special 4: Beastformers mook. This bio gives him the nickname "Leon" (レオン Reon), as in chameleon, get it?
