The Autobots face off against the Emperor of Cyber City, Starscream!

Synopsis

You know Screamer's imagining "One Winged Angel" playing as he does this.

As they sneak through Cyber City by holographically hiding among the many, many statues of Starscream, Mirage explains the predicament to Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Elita-1. They don't trust each other, but they all want off Cyberworld, and while the trio know what they want and where to find it, Mirage holds the know-how to actually getting it. Fighting through drones to reach a computer terminal, Mirage hacks the system and locates a map with all the drops and missions, which would allow them to reach any ahead of all the other competitors. Mirage also finds schematics of Scorponok. When they try to download it onto their own drive, however, the system is locked down by a broadcast of Starscream, which fries the data. They run for it, escaping the building and hiding behind a holographic wall.

Unfortunately, just as Mirage tries to cockily celebrate saving them, Starscream approaches from above with a flotilla of drones. A mission portal opens up, and the four allies run into it, closely followed by Starscream (but not before he leaves his crown behind for safekeeping), transporting them to a high, levitating platform. The mission title is "Last Bot Standing" - the last bot in the area wins the energon. Mirage decides to cut his losses and go by himself, taking to the skies, but is followed closely by Starscream, who grabs him and tries to tear his wings off, before throwing him back down. Elita-1 and Bumblebee grab an upgrade, which gives Elita a pair of rocket boosters that she uses to knock out Starscream momentarily. Prime volunteers to concede, as only one of them can win, although both Bee and Elita declare "Not it!" Starscream takes this chance to remind them he is still in the game, and as Elita's upgrades wear off, he grabs her and throws her off the edge. She's saved by Mirage, but this is only momentary, as Starscream just throws them both off, this time eliminating them both.

Quotes

"I often wondered what a Starscream rule would look like. This is way worse."

Bumblebee isn't fond of Starscream's municipal decor.

"You don't have to do this. We always have a choice."
"Can you go five seconds without some patronizing speech?"

Bumblebee and Optimus Prime never took acting lessons back on Cybertron.

Notes

Continuity notes

  • Snarl is still following the group from a distance, as per last time.

Character levels

  • None seen

Transformers references

Real world references

  • The mission is referred to as both "Battle Royale" and "Last Bot Standing", a Transformers-isation of "Last Man Standing". These are both common multiplayer modes in video games where the objective is to be the last player surviving out a given number.
  • Optimus Prime says "Holy Heterodyne", probably referencing the the signal mixing technique.

Animation and technical errors

Trivia

  • As you might expect by now, this was initially uploaded in a combined video with the previous one with an SEO-baiting title ("Bot Battle Royale!"). The individual title comes from series writer Ali Lightfoot's twitter feed. [1]
