Apeface is a strong presence in any situation. He's loud, rude, obnoxious, and intimidating to everyone he meets. He dominates those around him with his attitude and fearsome countenance. There's some debate among his fellow Decepticons about how much of his behavior is an act, a gruesomely effective psychological tactic to control others and force them to fold under his demands. Others just think he was built that way. Whatever's going on inside Apeface's cerebral-circuitry, he's not saying. The only one he really gets along with is Snapdragon.

Apeface appeared to be the leader of the "animals" under Cyclonus and Scourge's command. Or at least their spokesperson. Not that it matters, since when Apeface balked at a command to rip off his own head, Cyclonus <strike>pimp-slapped</strike> shot him and said "You will do as I say, or you will die!" Not way up there in the Decepticon hierarchy, Apeface is.

:Apeface turns into both a cybertronic jet and a robotic gorilla. Unlike Snapdragon, Apeface's fighter jet mode only looks vaugley like an Earth jet, with his robot limbs hanging off the back of the vehicle in an obvious fashion. His Headmaster partner, Spasma, can ride inside the jet's cockpit. He can mount guns on either side of his vehicle mode, but for some reason only comes with one gun while Snapdragon came with two.

:As Apeface is a triple changer, Spasma similarly has triple functions, forming both the robot mode face and the gorilla mode face. This beast mode has a relatively wide range of articulation for a Generation 1 beast, but has some minor problems with balance, which limits poses. Apeface's gorilla mode can be placed on all fours, but that results in his head staring at the ground.

Apeface is a Decepticon Horrorcon from the Generation 1 continuity family.
I will not hesitate to beat you to death with my own arm.

As a Headmaster, he is binary bonded to Spasma. Sucks to be Spasma.

Headmasters manga

Marvel Comics continuity

On Cybertron, Apeface was among Scorponok's crew of Decepticons. When their Autobot foes left for the planet Nebulos, the Decepticons followed. Broken Glass!

Not long after their arrival, Apeface and his pal Snapdragon were having fun terrorizing the natives in the city of Splendora, until they were easily dispatched by two Autobot Headmasters. Though Scorponok berated the two for their failure, this latest defeat proved enough for him to reconsider the merits of the Headmaster process. Soon, Apeface was one of six Decepticons who underwent binary-bonding with the organic Nebulans to become a Headmaster. Love and Steel!

He and the others continued to terrorize Nebulos until the Decepticons left for Earth, pursuing Fortress Maximus's Autobots yet again. Brothers in Armor!!

Apeface was quite amused by Optimus Prime's surrender to Scorponok on Earth, considering it a regular comedy show. Surrender!

Apeface was teleported to Cybertron along with countless other Transformers, where he somehow found a tasty banana to keep himself occupied while some stupid Autobot yammered on about dark gods and creators and stuff. The Void!

GRUNK!

"Ape Face" (as it is spelt in the comic) was one of the last few Decepticons remaining behind on Tau-Ursa when the Autobots arrived. He was investigating a crashed spaceship when he found a voice recording. Deducing that if the tape spoke it must be important, he resolved to take it to Scorponok.

At this moment he was attacked by Blurr and Hot Rod who were intent on keeping him from escaping with the information. The triple changer loudly declared his intention to smash them (with a mighty cry of "GRUUUNK!"), and after knocking them to the ground similarly announced he was transforming into jet mode. He was too slow however, and Blurr seized his arm, prising the tape from his hand before escaping. This made him mad. The War Against the Destructons, Chapter 1 of 3
