Mech alive take no part in the transformation process and can still be activated once the Robot is transformed. It is supposed to represent the constantly moving part and gears that can be seen on the Transformers in the Movie.

Mecha Alive is a gimmick in the Revenge of the Fallen toyline.
Developed by AUTOBOT technicians, and later stolen by DECEPTICON spies, MECH ALIVE Gearing is a powerful advance in TRANSFORMERS battlefield technology. It animates armor plating, letting it adjust to deflect incoming attacks with maximum efficiency. It also reinforces internal gearing, giving both AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS faster reflexes, beter aim, and more powerful attacks{{#if:|{{{quote2}}}}}{{#if:packaging copy|packaging copy{{#if:|, {{{3}}}|}}|}}
