The Veiled Threat prequel novel

Kickback, Tread, and Trample came to earth with the hopes of reviving their leader Megatron. To complete this task, the three of them took on the forms of construction vehicles and set to work mining uranium in the Australian outback. With enough energy, they hoped to jump-start Megatron's spark.

However, NEST was able to pick up their intermittent power signature and sent a team to investigate. In the battle, Tread and Trample split up. Tread was going to keep Ironhide busy while Trample made quick work of Salvage, then the two of them could double-team the tougher Autobot. Things did not go as planned as Salvage was able to hold his own against Trample while Tread was loosing ground against Ironhide. It was then that the human Kaminari Ishihara rushed onto the scene and into harm's way.

Trample took advantage of his knowledge of the Autobot's relationship to the humans and took Kami hostage hoping to negotiate his and Tread's escape. With the human in hand, Trample felt a surge of pain indicating that his twin was dead. Things went from bad to worse for him when he found out the hard way that his hostage was not defenseless. Kami was able to get a point-blank shot from her EMP weapon right in Trample's face. The result was like pepper spray for humans and Trample dropped Kami and was finished off by Ironhide.
