::It's probably a lot less obtuse when you're in England in 1991 or whatever, and it's all over the news because there is literally nothing to talk about in England. When was this Letters-page from? It it was from 1990 or later, I'mg onna have to back Hooper's idea that both Toaster and Carmen's name are multi-level puns designed to evoke somethign sound/music related, because the Carmen Curlers are a dutch chior oreganization founded in 90 that got a lot of of press because it was one of Europe's first Gay/Lesbian groups, back when that was touchy.
