A timeline for the events of the live-action film series continuity family.
Timeline
The Movie timeline is rife with minor contradictions, some of which may be explained by other continuities, or the Movie being a fictionalization of a real-life-event. Please include a parenthetical note at the end of a Chronology note indicating where it comes from so that it may be sorted out later. (Movie) (Prequel comic) (Target Comic) (Jr. Novel) (Chevy Autobot game) etc.
Prehistory
- Before time began - There was the Cube.

- ??BC — The All Spark creates Cybertron and a race of trans-dimensional entities, the Dynasty of Primes. It then creates the Transformers as workers, with a race of Seekers who will find suns that it can harvest for energy.
- 17,000 BC - The Dynasty of Primes find Earth but, due to the presence of life, will not harvest it. They are betrayed and slaughtered by one of their own, but the survivor steals the Matrix of Leadership needed to activate the Solar harvester. The Fallen dispatches the Seekers to locate the Matrix, and returns to Cybertron to wipe out the rest of the Dynasty. All are slaughtered save an orphan hidden from the Fallen, who is imprisoned in his sarcophagus. The Transformers inherit Cybertron, forming a civilization known as the Autobots, while the Harvester left on Earth is hidden by the native sentients. Defiance issue 4
- ??BC — Transformers develop the power of flight. This new technology was soon put to use in combat situations.[1]
- ??BC — For two generations Lord High Protector Megatron and Optimus co-rule a peaceful Cybertron.
- 10,000 BC — An archaeological dig by the Science Division discovers the remains of the Dynasty's sarcophagi and The Fallen's intact sarcophagus. Cybertron comes under attack by an alien race. Coming under The Fallen's influence, Megatron uses his control of the Defense Force to establish a military dictatorship, while Optimus discovers that he is the lost Prime. Optimus's group goes underground, while Megatron forms the modern Decepticons. Most of his army leaves Cybertron in the Nemesis, and Optimus Prime's Autobots begin their rebellion, but neither side possesses a concrete advantage. Defiance The civil war culminates in the Battle of Tyger Pax: while the main Autobot forces hold the Decepticons back at Simfur, a smaller team under Bumblebee buys those in Tyger Pax the time they need to launch the AllSpark into a wormhole in space. Megatron leaves Cybertron to follow it. Prime Directives Bumblebee loses the ability to speak.[2]
- ??BC — After "countless solar spans" Megatron tracks the All Spark to Earth but is reckless in his lust for it, crashes through the arctic ice, and is lost.[3]
1800's
- ~1807 AD — Mainframe flees Cybertron after attempting to unseat Megatron in a coup, he eventually settles on Earth. Note: this event is irreconcilable with the main timeline.
- 1895, September 7 — Date Iceman is discovered by Captain Witwicky. This does not seem to match other dates given, but it is shown onscreen as Frenzy hacks Air Force One.

- 1897 AD — The National Arctic Circle Expedition commanded by Captain Witwicky discovers a great metallic "devil" buried in the arctic ice.
- 1898 AD — Captain Witwicky, now blind and raving is confined to the Boston Secure Hospital. Two Victorian-style spooks with an interest in the "unusual" listen to his story, decide to cover it all up and embark on a goverment sponsored expedition to check it out. If these blokes aren't called Sector Seven already, they will be someday soon. Witwicky's personal effects are sent on to his family.
- 1899 AD — The proto-Sector Seven guys erect a dome above the partially excavated "Mega-Man".
1900's
- 1924 AD - Captain Witwicky is still alive and locked up in the wonderfully un-politically correct Psychopathic Institute for the Long-Term Insane in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He's having visions of movie trailers yet to come.
- 1935 AD - Arizona, a Sector Seven facility is built at the foot of the Hoover Dam to study both the Mega-man and the alien cube. Plans are to transfer the Mega-man to the facility very soon, that fall at the latest. For an unknown reason this never happens.
- 1938 AD - Captain Witwicky died on August 13th, he was survived by his son Clarence.
- 1969 AD — Sector Seven, headed by Walter Simmons, attempts the first test flight of an Ice Man (as the "Mega Man" is now nicknamed) derived spacecraft (Ghost 1) using the Apollo 11 moon launch as cover. At the same time the first attempt was made to relocate the Ice Man himself from the Arctic to southern Nevada to be better studied alongside the likewise mysterious "alien cube". Signs seemed to point to Sector Seven beginning to shift from being a secret US military operation to a non-military-aligned deep "black ops" program. The Ark and Nemesis clash over the Ghost 1 in a distant solar system and learn of Megatron's (and possibly the All Spark's) location on Earth, though not the location of Earth.
- 1977 AD — August 15th. The Big Ear radio telescope detects the Wow! signal. Sector Seven designates the sender (Optimus Prime) N.B.E.-2. This designation was later be reassigned to Bumblebee, possibly under the belief he was the same being.
- 1982 — Starscream is caught on video around the world; Laos (March 12, 1982), India (April 22, 1982), and Estonia (May 9, 1982) before transforming on camera in Sacremento, California (June 16, 1982). The subsequent Sector Seven Incident Report issued on July 17, 1982 issued a directive to Inact [sic] Operation Hungry Dragon. (Sector Seven ARG, ebucehtdnif.ws) Thundercracker assisted Starscream in this. #11's Star Screams
- 1983 — March 15th. To control the previous year's leaks[5] about the Transformers to the public, S7 Industries collaborated with Japanese toymaker Takara to produce a movie based on the 'video game' about giant robots they were developing, allowing them to dismiss any claims relating to the Transformers or their world as fictional characters- hiding them in plain sight. This operation is codenamed Hungry Dragon.
2000's
- 2003 AD — A facility in Colorado uses the Hubble Space Telescope to photograph Bumblebee landing on Mars. They then track his landing on Earth in Virginia. He is deignated N.B.E.-2 but manages to slip their detection by adopting a local alt-form. Meanwhile in suburbia, Ronald Witwicky passes on his keepsakes of Archibald to his callow young son. Seymour Simmons takes command of the operation to track down N.B.E.-2. Starscream, Blackout, and Barricade arrive on Mars, hot on Bumblebee's trail, and destroy a Mars rover. Decepticons head for Earth, clashing with both Bumblebee and Sector Seven. Prime Directive (IDW) Sector Seven initiates Hungry Dragon 2.
- 2006 AD - An Allspark Mutation, designated AX9-8946-09SU-1, is created by Sector Seven; it escapes and slaughters one of the scientists.
- 2007 AD - Sector Seven's security is increasingly breached; a civilian, a third Transformer faction, and Agent X all compromise it. They become aware a large assault is coming. Capture the Cube Sector Seven ARG The Autobots, aware of this attack, turn to human allies to transfer valuable data to Earth. Datafile Decoder Starscream comes to Mars again, this time with a larger force and a ship, and a contingent heads for Earth. Planetfall Sector Seven capture the injured Wreckage and pump him for info. Events of Transformers (Battle of Mission City) take place. Following this, Starscream returns to Mars and then to Cybertron; Decepticon stronghold Trypticon and many drones are destroyed, Starscream goes back to Mars. The Reign of Starscream Death of Wreckage, formation of NEST, and other events of Alliance #1-4. Michael Bay releases a documentary on the Mission City incident, making him a Decepticon target. #13's Star Screams
- 2008 AD - Decepticons seize control of publishing company Titan.[6] NEST continues to covertly battle Transformers and becomes increasingly multinational. Alliance issue 4 Morshower is made Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Major Decepticon battle from Montevideo to Buenos Aires, Demolishor fought and sent into hiding. Tales of the Fallen issue 2

- 2009 AD - The Decepticon war effort becomes tied to the success of Bay's second documentary. #23 Star Screams Autobots continue to arrive on Earth. Alliance issue 4 The Decepticon/Bay detente breaks down, alongside Starscream's nervous breakdown, and now Orzi and Kurtman are targets. #1 Law and Disorder NEST becomes aware that Starscream's Decepticons are not the only faction operating on Earth and that a second is trying to revive Megatron. The Veiled Threat Starscream comes under the command of The Fallen, returns to Cybertron and organises an army; Skids and Mudflap head to Earth to warn about his armies. Training Day Soundwave begins directing Earth Decepticons, targeting at least one at deactive Seekers. Learning Curve Demolishor re-acquired in Shanghai. The events of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen take place.
Alternate timelines
Titan Magazines
- 2007 AD - The Battle of Mission City take place but results in Decepticon victory; Sam Witwicky is killed, Megatron gains the All Spark, and Optimus Prime is MIA. North America is conquered, resulting in the death of the President of the United States; Bumblebee, Ratchet, Ironhide, Mikaela Banes and Tom Banachek go underground as rebels. The All Spark is stored at Savannah, being used to slowly turn Earth into a second Cybertron. Russia works alongside NATO, trying to contain the Decepticons.
- 2008 AD - Conflict with the Decepticons has hit other nations, including France; Earth finally gives in to the All Spark's corruption. NATO fails to stop the Decepticons, with Paris bombed in retaliation. A desperate rebel action, with help from six Autobot reinforcements, does succeed in killing Megatron and destroying the All Spark; the corruption continues to damage Earth, however, and the Decepticons both wage scorched earth tactics to prevent the liberated America recovering and covertly control the new President. The Autobots return in force to Cybertron to retrieve Nucleon to stabilise Earth, and the Decepticons carve a Decepticon Heartland out of the southern states in the process.
- 2009 AD - The Decepticons force the US to the bargaining table, promising a truce in return for the Autobots being kicked out of America. This occurs, and the Decepticons storm out to reconquer America the instant it does; however, Optimus had anticipated this and was able to manipulate the Decepticons into a situation where the Autobots could exile them all to Cybertron. The war ended, with the Autobots settling on Earth. [7]
