In Japan, the Generation 1 toyline did not begin until 1985 with the release of most of the toys from the first two years of Hasbro's releases. Each year thereafter, Takara would rebrand the line. As time went on, the differences between Takara's offerings and Hasbro's became more prominent. The Japanese toy lines continued for several years after the Transformers had declined in popularity in the United States.
