Synopsis

At Kirtland Underground Munitions Storage Complex, members of Covert Vampiric Operations is continuing its battle against the zombies under the control of the hungy Undermind. An air strike called in by the President attacks, and Bools is a bit miffed that they aren't able to leave before the explosions begin.

At Coffin HQ, CVO director Overmars and resident demon Nikodemus are dealing with their own infestation of zombies. Overmars is aghast at the apparent deaths of his subordinates, but Nikodemus points out that the worse option was to allow the zombies to reach the Artillica stockpiles. Their zombie problem is solved by the surprise arrival of Cross, Bools, and some Warbots; they had managed to gain access to a trans-gate just in time. Benny recurits Nikodemus's help to investigate Britt's nature and perhaps procure a solution to the current zombie outbreak.

While Cross and Bools are busy defending the President, Britt awakens and the four avatars that whisked away to other universes rejoin with Britt. With all of the power and knowledge she has amassed from the universes, Britt easily holds CVO at bay and begins summoning the Undermind through a portal. The CVO staff, incapable of doing much to Britt, teleport to Washington, D.C. to inform the agents there of the developing situation. Cross realizes that they need to fight fire with fire and, with Nikodemus's blood to protect him from the Undermind's influence, has Benny bite him to begin his transformation into a vampire-zombie hybrid like Britt.

Cross immediately sets out to stop Britt and the Undermind. Cross incapacitates Britt and, with the Artillica magic in himself, erases the Undermind from existence before it can become fully part of this reality. Cross disappears, and his last move had the effect of rendering all Artillica inert. Without Artillica and with Britt in a fugue state, CVO are unsure how to do things from now on. At Arlington cemetry, Cross looks at his grave and walks away.
