Slo is a Beastformer from the Generation 1 continuity family.
He was hilarious in Zootopia.

Slo (スロー Surō), also known as Nama-chan (ナマちゃん), is one of the Autobot-allied Beastformers fighting a war on the planet Beast. Born on the Müller Peninsula, a popular tourist spot, he's a mild-mannered and diplomatic fellow with a great sense of an area's local color. He has many hobbies, including music and sports, and is a movie actor in times of peace. His role in the Autobot Beastformer forces is Staff Officer and he wields the Slow-Bar, an MVP Weapon that grants him the ability to see all movement in slow motion for 60 seconds. He also holds the rank of King of Hamanan, over Emperor Earthhog, and his reign is popular among young Beastformers, many of who have emigrated from the nearby Barāki and Gun Marino.

Toys

Transformers: Beastformers

  • Slo (Beastformer, 1987)
    • Beast ID number: 66
    • Accessories: Spear
Part of the third series of Takara's Beastformers toys, Slo is an anthropomorphic three-toed sloth in green robotic armor. His left "hand" is posed in a more flat-palmed pose, meaning he can only hold his weapon in his right hand. The rubsign on his chest reveals one of three symbols; Fire, Water or Wood.
He came in a green-grid generic "Cybertron Beastformer" box, with a bio card with a line-art character image first used in Hasbro's Battle Beasts cast poster (rather than the painted images of the prior two series). Depending on the "Pack" he came in, there was a chance of his bio card being replaced with a rare "Secret Photo", "Bewitching Serpent Seal", or "VS Holography Mirror" card.

  • Burst Sun Special Set (Multi-pack, 1987)
    • Accessories: Spear
The first Beastformers multipack (still using the Transformers logo and factions) contained nine normal figures, then one of two special editions of the faction leaders, either a clear-plastic version of Alligatron, or White Leo with the "Burstsun" rubsign. The box contained no windows, so you didn't know which of the leaders you got until you opened it up.
The other nine standard Beastformers in the set were Black Jaguar, Būpink, Crowmax, Dog Hunter, Dream Eater, Earthhog, Mingo Kid, Muskhorn, and Slo.

Beastformers

  • Slo (Beastformer, 1988)
    • Beast ID number: 66
    • Accessories: "Slow-Bar" MVP Weapon
Re-released in the Transformers-less Beastformers sequel series, Slo was given a straight re-release with new packaging and a new, more filled-out bio card with corrected coloring. This new card also gave his weapon, now branded an "MVP Weapon", the name "Slow-Bar" (スローバー Surō Bā).
He was sold in two similar-but-different styles of boxes. One wholly-generic version, sold in large display boxes like the Transformers releases, advertised the chance for the included bio card to instead be a rare holofoil card of White Leo with a "Burstsun" rubsign in a baggie taped to the back, so you could apply it to the Beastformer of your choice. The more common version has a slightly different box with a peg-hole in the top flap, and has a sticker on the bottom with his name and role on it.
Late in the run, the "mood ring" styled rubsigns were replaced with new rubsigns that revealed full-color Fire/Wood/Water images on black backdrops. (These rubsign variants also happened at the same time in the Hasbro Battle Beast version of the line.)

Notes

  • Slo's original Japanese name is a transliteration of both "slow" (スロー) and a portion of "sloth" (スロース). Thus, his name can be Romanized as "Slo" or "Slow".
