Fiction

Energon cartoon

Skyboom and the other component Mini-Cons of the Energon Saber escaped an attack on Mars City by Tidal Wave and Scorponok, fleeing the station's destruction. He then accompanied Optimus Prime's team when Alpha Q sent his forces to attack Plains City. The Mini-Cons formed into the Energon Saber, allowing Kicker to beat up some Terrorcons, and was then wielded by Ironhide against Scorponok. Megatron's Sword

Skyboom and his fellow Mini-Cons were once in their combined configuration when Megatron launched an attack on Lunar City. Though Ironhide had hoped to wield them in this form, Kicker confiscated the Energon Saber, and used it as a hoverboard to charge into the fray himself. Starscream the Mysterious Mercenary

Skyboom was present at a briefing, during which Optimus Prime told his troops that they still had much to do, even now that the Energon Grid was in place to keep Earth safe from Decepticon attacks. Later, when Ironhide, Kicker, and Skyblast pursued Hot Shot to Mars after he left under mysterious circumstances, they brought along the Mini-cons in their Energon Saber configuration, just in case. Unfortunately, the blade proved rather ineffective against the aggressive Rodimus and his allies. Rodimus Friend or Foe?

Ironhide took with him the Energon Saber when he stowed away on Rodimus's spaceship to infiltrate Unicron's head. He was first attacked by Cruellock Terrorcon drones and then by Scorponok as he skulked about Unicron's interiors. During both confrontations, the blade was knocked out of his hand, leaving Ironhide to use his wits and built-in weaponry to defend himself. A Tale of Two Heros

Energon comic

Skyboom and the other Energon Saber Mini-Cons waited with Kicker Jones in the lower levels of Ocean City for the arrival of Sharkticon, who was making a rather sad attempt to silently infiltrate the city. The three Mini-Cons formed the Energon Saber, and in Kicker's hands, sent Sharkticon back into the briny deep. Perspective

Skyboom is a retooling of the Armada Sonar mold, transforming into a Cybertronic shuttle. He can also form the hilt for the combined Energon Saber sword. He was only available in a Mini-Con three-pack with Scattor and Wreckage.
This mold was redecoed to make Lens and Cybertron Ramjet. The original version of this mold was also used to make Shade.

Merchandise

Attacktix

I have a name, you know.
  • Mini-Con (Booster, 2006)
ID number: TF01
Rarity:
Faction: Autobot
Class: Trooper
Special: Attackback - 4/26 (15%) success ratio
Point Cost: 10
Base Speed: 4
Attack Type: Shooter (Small Missile)

The first assortment of Transformers Attacktix figures included a "generic" Mini-Con, based on Skyboom. Each Mini-Con figure has 3 points of articulation, including waist and shoulders; however, their shoulders move together due to their gun. One of the shortest, most squat Attacktix figures, the Mini-Con is very stable despite its small base.
Its Special Power, Attackback, allows a free move and attack for any of your in-play Autobot pieces. He's also an excellent support figure for Landmine, whose Shootback power allows up to three Mini-Cons to make a free attack.
This mold was intended to be redecoed into a Decepticon-allied piece (which received an official bio as Bunker-Buster), but this was ultimately unreleased.

Notes

  • Skyboom is mistakenly called "Sonar" by Optimus Prime in the cartoon, most likely because of his resemblance to the Armada character.

Foreign names

  • Japanese: Beam (ビーム Bīmu)
