Megastorm (BW)
| This article is about the Beast Wars II Predacon. For Megatron (any of them), see Megatron (disambiguation). |
- Megastorm is the Predacon Duke of Destruction from the Beast Wars II portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Megastorm (メガストーム Megasutōmu) is the Predacon Duke of Destruction and younger brother to Galvatron, the Emperor of Destruction. He believes in being realistic and conservative when it comes to goals and strategy and hence tends to have a rather different viewpoint than his more bold and reckless older brother. Finally when Galvatron began his audacious quest for the Angolmois energy, the differences between them became too great and Megastorm began to consider how he could seize the reins of command and steer them back towards sanity. Galvatron is well aware of his younger sibling's attempts at treachery, but looks the other way purely out of brotherly love.
Megastorm can transform into a tank. He was later upgraded by Angolmois into the Cyborg Beast Gigastorm (ギガストーム Gigasutōmu), a giant mechanical dinosaur, which gave him a base mode and a battle station mode, along with a Gigascouter drone. His personality was likewise magnified to drive out all compassion, weakness, and doubt. The upgrade included an enlarged title as Arch-Duke of Destruction.

Galvatron set course for the planet in his ship, the Galvaburg II, along his younger brother Megastorm, the Combatrons and the Autorollers. Seeking alternate modes for his Predacons to scan, Galvatron investigated some ruins on Gaea and discovered an ancient but still-functional computer. The machine gave his troops vehicular forms, but when Galvatron demanded that the computer provide him with information on the strongest vehicle and creature from Gaean history, the resultant surge of data was so powerful that it knocked him offline. It was then that Megastorm gained his tank form and decided to become the new leader of the Destrons. The New Forces Arrive!
Galvatron's unconscious form was brought aboard the Galvaburg II, and he remained there, soundly sleeping, while Megastorm led the Predacons in his stead for some time. White Lion, Run! Bighorn's Rage The Lake Trap Unfortunately for Galvatron, this gave Megastorm a taste for leadership, and he eventually decided to try and dispose of his brother so that he could take Galvatron's throne for good. Hauling the unconscious Galvatron off the ship, Megastorm dropped his slumbering sibling into a well of Angolmois energy, thinking it would destroy him...only for Galvatron to be re-energized and rudely awakened! Exploiting his brother's slightly disoriented state, Megastorm claimed that it was the Maximals who had thrown him in the well, and Galvatron promptly set off to eliminate Lio Convoy and his team. Megastorm observed the ensuing the battle between Galvatron and the Maximals from afar, and he emulated their strategy with great aplomb, sending his brother sinking into the molten lava below.Galvatron Revived
Megastorm didn't realize that Starscream had also been watching the fight and had quickly recovered Galvatron from the volcano, bringing him back to the Galvaburg II, unconscious once more and sealed in a coffin of solidified lava, and so Megastorm became mad with Starscream, fearing this would conflict with his leadership. The Maximal Brainwashing Operation
Megastorm was a big supporter of Starscream's latest scheme; the Predacon jet had devised a means to brainwash Maximals into Predacons, and managed to capture Tasmania Kid and Diver. After subjecting them to the brainwashing process, the pair were set loose against their former allies. The bulk of the Predacon forces followed them into a massive assault against the Yukikaze's crew. Megastorm watched the whole drama unfold from a distance, readying a powerful blast to take out both the Maximals and his older brother. Just as he finished charging his canon and prepared to unleash its power, the terrain beneath Megastorm's treads collapsed! Scuba had been hiding in an underground river, and popped up at just the right moment to spoil Megastorm's shot. Megastorm's stray blast wound up badly injuring the Predacons, forcing them to retreat. Megastorm himself was swept up in the current of the underground river and carried away by the water. Megastorm joined Galvatron and his Predacons on Gaea in their quest for Angolmois. After Galvatron absorbed Angolmois and fell into a deep sleep, Megastorm hooked him up to the Galvatron Dekazura Tank, using Galvatron's energies to power it. With it, he set out to attack Lio Convoy's Maximals on a rainy day. The Maximals managed to lure the tank into a river and used underwater charges to exploit the tank's weak bottom shielding and sink it. After Lio Convoy broke into the tank, Megastorm took a shot at the Maximal, but it was deflected and Lio punched Megastorm, causing him to accidentally press the self-destruct button, blowing up the tank with him inside. Megastorm was left answering Galvatron's queries as to what happened while he was sleeping. Demolish the Superdreadnought Tank!

Duel Fight Transformers Beast Wars
A super-powerful Energon crystal was discovered on Earth, and Megastorm intended to obtain it for himself. So did several other Predacons and Maximals however, leading to a series of one-on-one battles.
Megastorm could also partake in various other tasks, such as a mission to break a boulder to reveal an energon crystal hidden within before sundown, using a block in a mission to defend himself against various incoming projectiles, and missions to travel across a pit-riddled field, sometimes involving hideously large bacteria he had to fend off.
After defeating his final opponent, Megatron, Megastorm gloated that using the crystal's power, he would finally be capable of overthrowing his older brother, Galvatron. But his plans never became reality, as Galvatron stole the crystal from under Megastorm's nose. Duel Fight Transformers Beast Wars
Toys
Beast Wars
- Megastorm (Predacon, 1998)
- Japanese ID number: D-12
- A redeco of the first Generation 2 Megatron toy (which had not been released in Japan previously), Megastorm transforms into a large combat tank. In both modes, his main cannon stocks up to six missiles, and gravity slides the next missile into place when one is fired. Megastorm lacks the electronics present in the Generation 2 toy, however. He has also been negligibly retooled to accommodate a Predacon rubsign in his tummy.
- The most noticeable visual difference between G2 Megatron and Megastorm is that the purple camo pattern of the former has been rendered a more sensible brown on the latter. Black paint has been applied to the panels surrounding Megastorm's eyes, matching his cartoon appearance. The shoulder insignia decals have been updated to show the Predacon symbol and the text "Destron", though still on the bright orange background of the originals. Like his predecessor, he includes a "Big Stick" decal that wraps around the fume extractor of his main cannon, though instead of "Eat this, Autobots!", the other side carries G1 Megatron's motto, "Peace through tyranny".
- Megastorm was reissued in Korea in Car Bot packaging, re-affiliated as an Autobot and renamed as Armored Corps.
- Apache vs Megastorm (Vs pack, 1998)
- Japanese ID number: VS-12
- Megastorm was also available in a two-pack with the Maximal Apache.

- Gigastorm (Predacon, 1998)
- Japanese ID number: D-22
- Gigastorm is a partial retool of Trypticon, giving him a new dino-mode nose-horn as well as removing the metal ball-bearings from the outsides of the legs. He transforms from a T-rex-thing to a base-form-thing. Gigastorm lacks most of Trypticon's accessories, only coming with Gigascouter, a redeco of Full-Tilt. This toy was repurposed as the Gigastorm Armor.
Merchandise
Beast Wars Gum
- Megastorm (candy toy, 1997)
- A snap together model kit of Megastorm was available as part of Kabaya's Beast Wars Gum, sculpted from purple and gold plastic. He could transform from robot to vehicle mode by being broken down into its component parts, then rebuilt into a new mode. It came with a stick of gum.
Notes
- According to Ben Yee, who wrote his IDW profile, he envisioned Megastorm as having Trypticon's design specs in his database and using those as the basis of his upgraded form when empowered by Angolmois energy.
- Like all non-toy Kreons (particularly in the Hayato Sakamoto comics), Kre-O Gigastorm is made from existing Kre-O parts. He uses the generic Torox helmet (with the side-holes being cleverly obstructed by the panel line), a horn piece, and a deco that matches his original counterpart's toy.
