Returning to his personal room in the Maximal Gaia base following a morning of intergalactic radio calisthenics and tending to his space daikon field, Apache is shocked to see his room in disarray. A lone whisker found at the scene points to Tasmania Kid as the culprit. Accused by Apache and with none of his teammates backing him due to his regular antics, Kid takes off in tears.
Just then, Lio Convoy arrives to deliver a shocking revelation—he is the one behind the clutter! He had been drinking oil in his room the night prior and gotten a bit carried away, even breaking out a special vintage bottle. He only remembers as far as transforming, after which he must have thrashed Apache's room in beast mode.
Meanwhile, Tasmania Kid has uncovered a Predacon operation. Gigastorm has the CombatronsStarscream, Thrust, BB and Dirge delivering tank-sized mugs of oil while he lounges by a pool of liquid Angolmois. Gigastorm is displeased to find his latest batch does not contain added Angolmois extract as requested. He knocks the Predacons into the pool, where they are transformed by its energies into Cyborg Beasts. The four claim new names to match their beastly appearances, then spot Tasmania Kid, who has been watching nearby.
Jealous of Kid's cute appearance and disgusted by his new technorganic visage, the newly dubbed Hellscream (Starscream) plans to dunk Kid into the Angolmois to transform him into a Cyborg Beast. Apache, distraught, attempts to contact Kid to apologize. Hellscream intercepts, giving Apache one hour to come alone to their current position if he wants to rescue his comrade.
Arming himself with heavy artillery, Apache heads out alone to the scene. Despite Apache arriving slightly late, Hellscream agrees to stay Kid's dunking so long as Apache agrees to come along quietly. To both the Predacons' and Tasmania Kid's surprise, however, Apache begins laying waste to all the enemies at once.
As Lio Convoy, Scuba, Diver, and Bighorn rush to the scene, the Maximal leader reveals that his second-in-command was once feared by friend and foe alike as the "Blue Reaper" (青い死神 Aoi Shinigami), decimating enemy battalions single-handedly. However, his lone-wolf actions on the field once led to the death of an ally, accounting for the shift to his overly fastidious, team-oriented self.
At the battle site, Hellscream alone is left to pounce on Apache in shark mode—left crawling helplessly toward his would-be prey due to his beast mode's inability to maneuver outside of water.
The other Maximals arrive to chase the Predacons from the scene. Tasmania Kid and Apache make up, with the former having found new respect for his vice-captain. Apache offers to make everyone a tasty space daikon dish, causing Tasmania Kid to grow nervous. Apache asks if Kid isn't keen on the root vegetable. It's not that, Tasmania Kid explains. He may have relieved himself on the field earlier that day...
As the two break into a fight, Scuba opines that while it may not all be water under the bridge, at least everything's back to normal.
Later that evening, Lio Convoy pours himself another oil nightcap, worrying that he might be forming a habit.
The pool of Angolmois Energy Gigastorm is lounging by contains a sign left by the Autorollers labelling it an "Angolmois Energy Processing Site" and warning against exposure. In Mission-007, Lio Convoy comments that explosions of Angolmois Energy from the planet feeding up to the Nemesis correspond to sites where the Autorollers were seen working recently, implying that this may be one such location.
While summarizing Tasmania Kid's character as "an adventure-loving scoundrel," Apache quotes directly from an issue of Comic BomBom with a Beast Wars title on the cover, holding the magazine in hand.
The weapons, such as pistols or rifles, carried by Apache in this issue seem to be contemporary 20th century weapons from the real word. In a postscript interview in the 2023 collected edition, author/illustrator Shōji Imaki reveals [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Commando (1985 film)|{{#if:Commando|Commando|Commando (1985 film)}}]] and other [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Arnold Schwarzenegger|{{#if:||Arnold Schwarzenegger}}]] action movies to have been a direct inspiration.
Apache's various hobbies, from daikon-farming to morning radio calisthenics, are in keeping with stereotypes of older, rural Japanese men. While gazing at a photo of his family in his personal room, Apache himself comments that they're from the countryside. What this means in Cybertronian context is anyone's guess.
Tasmania Kid once put the real-world hot Tabasco sauce in Apache's oil.
Lio Convoy's special vintage oil is labeled "Convoy Killer" (コンボイ殺し Konboi Koroshi), in a style reminiscent of Japanese sake bottles.
As Hellscream scuttles along the ground in shark mode toward Apache, he directly invokes [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Jaws (film)|{{#if: Jaws| Jaws|Jaws (film)}}]] by name, performing a little rendition of the film's iconic main theme (rendered via kana that convey its distinct rhythm).
When Tasmania Kid is saved and he and Apache apologize to each other, Scuba says Ame futte ji katamaru (雨ふって地かたまる "After the rain, the ground hardens") which is a proverb that means that things get better after an ordeal.
This chapter contains a number of references to Transformers eating—including its ending beats, in which Apache promises to cook a big meal with his space daikon for everyone—an idea with which the greater franchise and in particularly the Beast Era maintains a rocky relationship.
While Apache maintains a vegetable garden in the comic continuity, the Maximals explicitly don't have a vegetable garden in the cartoon continuity according to "The Great Angolmois Freezing Tactic".
Items strewn about Apache's destroyed room include a Rubik's Cube, a book titled Transform Your Mindset: Change is Possible! (心も変身（トランスフォーム）あなたも変われる! Kokoro mo Henshin (Toransufōmu) Anata mo Kawareru!) and a photo of Apache's "family from back home in the boonies."
