The name or term "Galvatron" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Galvatron (disambiguation).
Galvatron is a Decepticon from the Age of Extinction portion of the live-action film series continuity family.
Pal, you picked the wrong car to terrorize.

The crowning achievement of Kinetic Solutions Incorporated, the man-made drone code-named Galvatron was originally intended for use in the United States military, hunting down and dispatching any rogue Transformers that had evaded human capture. Reverse-engineered from the scavenged remains of Megatron, the drone adopted many of his features during its construction. In reality, however, Megatron's consciousness had survived his destruction, and bit by bit the Decepticon leader fed his captors the technical information they required. In time, KSI had unwittingly built him a brand new body ripe for the taking. Galvatron's lack of a true spark makes him almost invincible, as does his ability to split apart into a cloud of Transformium and avoid taking damage. With the fearsome mind of Megatron and this powerful new body, Galvatron conspires to turn KSI's technology against its creators, forging a new Decepticon army under his command.

He's gonna show the world: "Baby, I'm back!"

"Alright guys, this scheme to create our own aliens totally won't backfire! Honest!"

Though believed dead in the battle of Chicago, Megatron's consciousness survived within his severed head. The head was collected by Joshua Joyce's KSI, and used to produce man-made Transformers. Learning of KSI and Cemetery Wind's alliance with Lockdown in order to obtain a Seed, Megatron silently bided his time while he fed KSI with the information they needed to mass-produce Transformers. KSI played right into Megatron's hands, unlocking the secrets of Transformium and building many new Transformers. Joyce oversaw the production of five prototype Galvatrons, but since each Galvatron was developed directly from Megatron's own source code, they all took on a twisted, sinister appearance and were subsequently recycled. Joyce grew increasingly frustrated with the project, since he wanted the final product to have Optimus Prime's friendlier, more heroic appearance. Eventually, Megatron's "chromosomes" infected the latest Galvatron prototype and transferred Megatron's mind into it. Thus Megatron, who eventually accepted the name Galvatron as his new identity, was reborn. Although Galvatron eventually planned to steal the Seed and take control over KSI's drone army, he pretended to be a remotely controlled drone for the time being. Only Brains, who was forced into hard labor by KSI, knew the truth about Galvatron, but he was more than happy to sit back and watch him annihilate humanity rather than share this information with his captors.

"You have no soul!"
"That is why I make a great lawyer!"

After the Autobots left KSI after an attempted raid, Harold Attinger ordered Galvatron deployed alongside Stinger to apprehend Optimus. Upon activation, Galvatron pretended to obey KSI's remote control, but showed several signs of free will during the operation, including firing weapons unbidden and showing a reckless disregard for civilian bystanders. Galvatron separated Optimus from Bumblebee and the other Autobots, and battled him. When Optimus declared that Galvatron had no soul, Galvatron retorted that he had no fear. It was this verbal exchange that alerted Optimus to Galvatron's true nature, but before the fight could be resolved, Lockdown arrived and easily dispatched his prey. Galvatron was retrieved from the field by a furious Joyce, who declared Galvatron's signs of autonomy as critical flaws.

I'll get you next time, Gadget, next time!

Brains revealed Galvatron's scheme to Cade Yeager, who called Joyce and alerted him of the danger Galvatron posed should he obtain the Seed. Having ended his deal with Lockdown, Attinger handed over the Seed he'd received in exchange for Optimus. Though efforts were made to tighten security, Galvatron activated on his own as he bellowed his name, then granted life to KSI's other Transformers. Together, Galvatron and his new minions trashed KSI's lab as they searched for the Seed. However, Joyce was able to flee the facility with the Seed, escaping both Galvatron and the CIA. He attempted to rendezvous with the Autobots and Yeagers in Hong Kong. Galvatron ordered his new Decepticons to split up and find Joyce, and his troops were able to shoot down the Autobot ship just as Joyce was about to hand over the Seed. The Autobot ship crash-landed in the nearby Wulong Valley, leaving only Hound and Bumblebee to protect the humans and the Seed. However, just as the two were about to be overwhelmed, the other Autobots returned with the Dinobots in tow, quickly turning the tide of battle and slaying most of the Decepticons, much to Galvatron's chagrin. Galvatron was only saved by the timely reappearance of Lockdown, whose attack drew Optimus's attention. With his plans temporarily stymied, Galvatron declared his rebirth and swore revenge against Prime as he left for parts unknown. Age of Extinction

"That violence breeds violence. But in the end it has to be this way."

Galvatron was one of the villains who the Autobots had to defeat to protect the Earth. He had numerous Stingers under his command. The Autobots thwarted several of his schemes:

  • Galvatron constructed a Star Harvester to destroy Earth's sun.
  • He also had his minions collect lost fragments of the AllSpark in a bid to build a Decepticon army on Earth.
  • He later had his minions steal Transformium from KSI. Age of Extinction

Toys

Robots in Disguise

The Japanese releases of the toys below features no changes from the American release, other than the packaging.

Movie-verse Grand Galvatron.
  • Galvatron (One-Step Changer, 2014)
    • Japanese ID Number: LA-SP
Part of the fourth wave of One-Step Changers, Galvatron transforms into a licensed 2012 Freightliner Argosy truck cab. His transformation is triggered when you depress a tab on the back of his wind vane and spin the wind vane a full 360 degrees, deploying his robot mode. Rotating the wind vane clockwise changes him back into a truck. He features articulation at his shoulders.
  • Final Battle 4-Figure Set (Multi-pack, 10-18-2014)
    • Japanese ID number: LA-SP
Galvatron was later released in the Final Battle 4-Pack (along with Sliver Knight Optimus Prime, Slug, and Helicopter Drift) by Takara Tomy.

A little hip articulation would have gone SO far.
  • Galvatron (Power Attacker, 2014)
    • Japanese ID Number: LA18
Released in the third wave of Power Attackers figures, Galvatron changes again into a licensed Freightliner Argosy. Pressing a tab on his back sends a rather intricate and ornate vortex grinder telescoping out of his chest.
Despite having a deluxe-sized robot mode, his vehicle mode is smaller than his one-step counterpart.

Generations

You want me, and you can have me. (TakaraTomy Version pictured)
  • Galvatron (Voyager, 2014)
    • Accessories: Cannon
    • Japanese ID number: AD22
Part of the second wave of Age of Extinction: Generations Voyager Class toys, Galvatron transforms into a 2012 Freightliner Argosy. Given that it would be impossible to emulate his on-screen transformation, he is a complete shell-former, with his truck mode folding up solely along his back and calves. As with Evasion Optimus Prime, he has a different paint scheme than seen on his packaging, with fewer paint applications on his body and weapon. His cannon can either be held like a gun or fitted on his hand in a way that appears as if it is coming out of his arm.
Galvatron's package is the only packaging in the Age of Extinction toyline thus far that neglects to mention what his alternate mode is called. The only mention of Freightliner being involved with his alternate mode is in the tiny copyright information section of the box.
The Movie Advanced Series version adds some additional paint applications for a more screen-accurate look, most notably, a darker face with yellowish-red eyes.

Kre-O

All of the Age of Extinction Kre-O sets were exclusive to ToysЯUs in the US... though some did eventually filter to closeout stores in mid-2015.
Why are drills my primary weapon, again? Did I use drills in the movie?
  • Galvatron (Custom Kreon, 2014)
    • Set number: A9230
    • Pieces: 30
    • Accessories: Rack, pistol, 2 clip-on drills, treaded backpack
Part of the second wave of Age of Extinction Custom Kreons, Galvatron comes with a buildable parts rack on which to hang/store his many many extra pieces. His "normal" helmet and two drills (attached to clip-on turbines/cannons) are chromed, plus he comes with an extra clear-plastic helmet, torso and legs. He also has a pair of extra arms (originally from the Kre-O Battleship aliens) and a spare hand, plus buildable tread-backpack, and a pistol (originally a Klingon disruptor from Kre-O Star Trek).

Where is the Kraggle!?
  • Galvatron Factory Battle (Kre-O set, 2014)
    • Set number: A6952
    • Pieces: 388
    • Kreons: Bumblebee, KSI Worker (lab worker), KSI Worker (security), Dr. Littleman, Optimus Prime, Vehicon
The centerpiece of the "Galvatron Factory Battle" set, Galvatron is rendered as a large buildable super-robot, a sort of mega-Kreon, with a new hip piece using larger balljoints. He does not seem to be based on... anything. Certainly not something that would become a vehicle.
He's designed to fit on a large movable working slab in the factory playset.

And these arm-cannon things. They're neat sure, but did I lift them off of Ironhide's corpse at some point?
The first "normal" Kreon of Galvatron available, this one was only available in the "Grimlock Unleashed" set.
This set popped up at ToysЯUs a few short weeks after the initial product without any advance warning... and retailed for a mere $25, despite the size of the set.

Yes, someone bought the movie just for the Kreons. We know. We know.
  • Transformers Kre-O + Movie Gift Pack (2014)
    • Accessories: 2 clip-on turbine/cannons
This Toys"R"Us exclusive Blu-Ray + DVD release of Age of Extinction includes a unique Galvatron Kreon, though at first glance you probably wouldn't realize that it's different from the "Grimlock Unleashed" version (see above). This version changes up which body parts use metal-flake medium-gray plastic and which use the metallic silver plastic (including his hands), has an even darker gray helmet, and completely new tampographs all around, possibly more movie-model-accurate? It's kind of hard to tell.
This set also included a similarly "just different enough to make you mad" Optimus Prime Kreon.

Construct-Bots

"No! Impossible! They're ruining everything!"
  • Galvatron (Dinobot Riders, 2014)
    • Accessories: Cannon
Galvatron is a smaller toy that transforms into a futuristic truck. Galvatron can ride any of the larger Dinobot sets. His vehicle mode is photographed backwards in the stock photos.
Like Starscream, Dinobot Riders Galvatron never saw release.

Galvatron is a larger set that transforms from a futuristic truck into a robot. He probably comes with a Dinobot partner that can change into accessories.

Notes

"There are plenty of Autobot shoulders for you. Ultra Magnus' shoulders are MINE!"
  • Concept art for Galvatron in Dark of the Moon was created by Massive Black artist Bruno 'Nox' Gore. Whether he was intended to be an upgraded Megatron or a separate character entirely is unknown. [1].
  • Interestingly (perhaps to avoid movie spoilers), the toy-bio for Galvatron on the Voyager packaging does not mention anything about Galvatron, but rather how the Autobots face new adversaries after the Battle of Chicago.
  • Age of Extinction sees Frank Welker make his on-screen debut as the live-action incarnation of Megatron, having previously played the role in tie-in video games. Welker of course voiced the original Megatron, and also voiced Galvatron in the original series (taking over the role from Leonard Nimoy), meaning he gets to reprise three roles at once! In voicing this Galvatron, Welker takes on a deep, growling delivery more akin to his take on Prime Megatron, as well as his own take on Movie Megatron in Transformers: The Ride.
  • Hasbro's website says that Galvatron's chest contains a "Vortex Grinder", like Devastator's. This could be why Optimus Prime's sword shattered inside of Galvatron's chest.
