As the new Trypticon is built, a civil war between the Decepticon factions of the Legends World erupts.

Synopsis

Nightbeat dives from Yokohama Bay Bridge and swims to the ocean floor, where Weirdwolf's Decepticon faction is nearing completion on the new Trypticon. While his base mode is finished, partially thanks to Rhinox being won over by Nightbeat's 80s charm, one piece is missing—a transformation cog. Having learned of their activities through Laserbeak, Soundblaster reports to Megatron, who correctly deduces they'll be targeting the cog used by Metroplex just as Weirdwolf's forces attack.

Metroplex deploys Scamper who takes on Full-Tilt, but Full-Tilt's new transtector makes him the larger one and Scamper can do little but delay him. While the Sweeps attack en masse and are held at bay by the Nightbird Shadow clones, Megatron takes to the battlefield with his Galvatron transtector and fights Weirdwolf. Ultra Magnus takes on the other Headmasters but falls under Mindwipe's hypnotism, and Trickdiamond battles Chromia, Blackarachnia and Slipstream with her earth powers. Metroplex transforms into his mobile base mode and uses a crane arm to pluck Full-Tilt's head off, but Nightbeat takes his transtector and fights Scamper in his place, freeing Full-Tilt up to infiltrate Metroplex and steal the cog, which is protected only by Legends Megatron and his lackeys.

With Trypticon's return all but inevitable, powerful JSDF troops led by Clouder and including recovered Tankor Drones and Black Convoy Mass Production Drones are posted at the Yokohama coastline in anticipation. Megatron knows this won't be enough, so Alpha Trion suggests they ask Axalon Trading Company and Fortress Maximus for help. Initially reluctant since Tera-Kura Co. is responsible, Megatron eventually relents... but too late: Trypticon has risen from beneath the waves.

Notes

  • The panel of Full-Tilt reaching for the transformation cog takes cues from this panel from "King of the Hill!" of Wipe-Out reaching for a human. Perhaps not coincidentally, this panel is the main image for our Wipe-Out article.
  • In a reference to Shin Godzilla, this new form of Trypticon is referred to as "Shin Dinosaurer" (新ダイナサウラー). However, the comic's use of the word exclusively means "new", unlike the more ambiguous rendition used for Shin Godzilla.
  • Nighbeat's '80s "bikini armor" is a homage to Chi-Chi's original appearance in Dragon Ball.
  • Clouder holds the rank of major (三等陸佐 santō rikusa) in the JSDF, much like how he was (will be) a major in the United States Department of Defense in United EX.
