...I really don't think a used car salesman qualifies as a "Magical Negro." Even the Wikipedia article linked disagrees with the assessment. --ItsWalky 14:36, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
- That's our Hooper. --Sntint 14:59, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, while in the trailer he does talk about a "mystical bond" and whatnot, I think that's pretty likely just supposed to be salesman smooth talking. --KilMichaelMcC 20:47, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Is 'magical negro' like Finnegan's rainbow or something? (A play I once had the delight of seeing a bunch of white high school students perform in blackface.) Is it an actual classification like (I gather) 'magical girl' is? -Derik 20:51, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
- I said "probably" because we don't know exactly how the movie will play out, but he definitely shows up, is a nice helpful brother, says some mystical mumbojumbo to help the white hero, and then goes away. Tyrese, on the other hand, is a strong nubian god. (and hte term, Derik, comes from literary criticism. it isn't exactly in the dictionary, but in the right circles it's fairly well recognized. so yeah, I guess it is like 'magical girl.' the first time i remember hearing it, iirc, was from a spike lee commentary. 76.20.253.233 23:28, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
