Hyperdrive (Micromaster)
| The name or term "Hyperdrive" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Hyperdrive (disambiguation). |
- Hyperdrive is a Decepticon Micromaster from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Hyperdrive is violent, destructive, and likes nothing better than "putting one in the CPU" of wounded Autobots. Even his teammates in the Sports Car Patrol are put off by his ignoble nature.[1] On the plus side... no wait, he's just a jerk. No depth here.

Hyperdrive and his cohorts were created by Thunderwing and his scientists after studying the captive Autobot Battle Patrol and thus replicating Emirate Xaaron's Micromaster process. A Small War!

After Megatron began rebuilding his power base on Cybertron, Hyperdrive and the Sports Car Patrol were some of his first recruits. Using the trans-dimensional patrol, Hyperdrive participated in the infiltration of the Ark, joining his fellow Micromasters in tricking Ratchet into believing that they were Autobots on their way back to Cybertron. Hyperdrive, being a loud-mouthed and obnoxious thug, somehow managed to keep quiet long enough for them to fool the Autobot medic and take him prisoner at Megatron's base on Cybertron. Back from the Dead Hyperdrive and the Micromasters jeered at Ratchet's manly robot tears when he realized how he'd been tricked. When Megatron made clear that Ratchet would come to no harm, as he had greater use for him, Hyperdrive openly voiced disappointment. Detour told his teammate to shut up and allow their boss to see his plans through. The Resurrection Gambit!

Hyperdrive continued to be a punk, goading Detour into starting trouble with Megatron's other recruits, Darkwing and Dreadwind. Megatron diffused the petty squabble between his troops, declaring their moment of triumph imminent. With Starscream fully repaired and upgraded into a mindless weapon of mass destruction, Megatron invited the Sports Car Patrol to join him in watching the Ark's destruction after they had disassembled Ratchet's lab. But Ratchet had been hatching a plot of his own, and caused a terminal in the lab to overload, catching Hyperdrive and the other Micromasters in its explosion. The Autobot then reactivated his buddies (Jazz, Grimlock, and Bumblebee), and sicced them on Megatron and his minions. All the Familiar Faces! The Race Car Patrol swarmed Jazz, the battle going in their favor until Ratchet informed his teammate of his new capabilities as a Pretender. Once the Autobot managed to get the hang of remote-controlling his shell, Hyperdrive's group began losing ground. Megatron was still more than capable of dealing with the Autobots however, and pitched all three of the new Pretenders outside, ordering his minions after them while he chased down Ratchet through his base's corridors. The Sports Car Patrol's running battle with the Autobots luckily took them out of range of the massive explosion which leveled the entire complex when Ratchet teleported several bombs within it. From a distance, both sides witnessed the building go up in flames, seemingly signaling the end of both Ratchet and Megatron. Skin Deep

Dreamwave Generation One continuity

Hyperdrive was one of the many Micromasters being created by the Autobots and Decepticons in a joint venture after the launch of the Ark. Like many others, he appeared to be overall neutral, belonging neither to the Autobots nor the Decepticons. He could first be seen hanging out in a secret nightclub in Little Iacon with the rest of the Micromasters and subsequently witnessing a race between Big Daddy and Roadhandler. The Gray Race After the end of the race, the whole group of Micromasters was attacked by the Insecticons, who were in search of the Hot Rod Patrol. Hyperdrive was one of the first Micromasters to pull out his gun and called upon his fellow Micromasters to "waste" the Insecticons. Recipe for Hate This didn't prevent him from being caught prisoner by them, though. After being freed together with the other prisoners by a team led by Countdown and Groundshaker a little while later, he partook in a march of the Micromasters to end a battle between the Autobots and Decepticons. He was one of those carrying the severed head of Shockwave, evidence that the conflict had been engineered under false pretenses. Victims of the Revolution
The Battle of the Star Gate
When Megatron confronted the two Starscreams on the Trigger, Hyperdrive was part of his forces. When the Autobots arrived, the Decepticons battled them, till the Starscream of the future interrupted the battle by merging with the Trigger. Toys
Generation 1

- Sports Car Patrol (Micromaster Patrol, 1989)
- Hyperdrive transforms into a cyan Mitsubishi X2S concept car. He was only available in a "Patrol" four-pack with his teammates Blackjack, Detour and Road Hugger. Hyperdrive is gang-molded with Detour, and they share plastic colors.
- This mold was also used for Zone Gingham, and was apparently the basis for the non-toy character Clipper.
Generations
War for Cybertron: Siege

- Decepticon Blackjack & Hyperdrive (Micromaster Class, June2019)
- ID number: WFC-S32
- Japanese ID number: SG-30
- Japanese release date: September 30, 2019
- Part of the third wave of Siege Micromaster two-packs, Hyperdrive is a remold of Roadhandler with a new chest and head, and transforms into a blue vaguely-Cybertronian sports car. He can also combine with his pack-in teammate Blackjack to form a cannon. As a part of the C.O.M.B.A.T. System, their weapon mode can be attached to any toy with a 5 mm post-hole. "Fire Blasts" can also be attached to their barrels. Alternatively he can be turned into a single blaster without the need of his teammate as a fan mode.
- There are documented cases of Hyperdrive being released in his proper colors but with the Roadhandler head and chest, a straight recolor of the original Roadhandler mold, and were sought after by fans.
Notes

- Most—if not all—of the toys pictured in the 1990 Hasbro Transformers catalogue are unfinished prototypes or mock-ups, and a variety of differences from the final products pop up. In Hyperdrive's case, the face and crotch are coloured red, whereas the final toy has them in dark blue. While this was probably just an aesthetic preference on part of the designers for a more cohesive paintjob, the original prototype color scheme ended up being the one used for the in-comic Marvel characters, making its change somewhat awkward as far as accuracy goes.
