After Optimus Prime and Megatron had been resurrected to battle each other, the two eventually settled on a truce. With Megatron's sanity circuits repaired, he agreed to the new Cybertron Alliance. He and Prime hoped that this would not only end hostilities between Autobots and Decepticons, but would usher in the Second Generation of the Transformers.
And it did, but only for a few minutes. After an incident where Earthlings killed one of his closest friends, Megatron called off the truce in a fit of rage and the G-2 battles began. G-2 Part 3

Notes

- While the Alliance lasted, Autobots and Decepticons both wore a previously unseen symbol that combined elements of their individual sigils. The symbol bears a heavy resemblance to the ancient proto-faction insignia discovered by Shockwave in the Dreamwave Generation 1 comic.
