It is actually a mistranslation. His name is レーザークック. "レーザー" (reezaa) means "laser" or "razor". Since he has no lasers (none of the pre-Laser Beasts have them), I'd go with "Razor". "クック" (kukku) is the clucking sound a chicken makes. So his name is actually Razorcluck. (If it was actually supposed to be "cock" it would be written as コック) Evan1975 16:16, 4 September 2009 (EDT)

First, let me say that I cannot believe I am going to attempt to argue this, as I have always been vaguely embarrassed by this name. But...
- "Kukku" and "cluck": 241 hits on Google.
- "Kukku" and "cock": 14,000 hits on Google.
- "Kukku" and "cuckoo": 14,4000 hits on Google.

- Okay, now, I am far from a Japanese expert, but if I'm reading this right, what needs to be pointed out is that "kukku" is not actually a literal WORD in this instance - it is Japanese onomatopoeia. Yes, it is the way that the English words "cuckoo" and "cook" are written, but in this case, it's a sound, not a word. To pluck an example from the back of my brain - remember Digimon? Y'remember "Patamon" (little orange thing with bat-wing ears, turned into Angemon?). He got his name from the onomatopoeia for flapping wings. Imagine the noise of fluttering - pattapattapatta. Thus, "Patamon". If you've ever read a manga where they don't translate the sound effects in the art, you'll probably have seen a big glossary full of examples like this. Where we would use an onomatopoeia like "Ba-DUMP ba-BUMP" for the beat of a heart, in Japan, it'd be something like "DO DO DO". "Kukku" is the Japanese way of writing the sound a chicken makes; the English way of writing the noise a chicken makes is "cluck". - I'm not convinced that it's "Cook"—nearly all of the Beastformers have names related to what animal they are. Why would it differ here? And the weapon is still more of a "razor" than it is a "laser". That said, I am having a hard find finding evidence that kukku is the Japanese onomatopoeia for clucking (and the link given above doesn't work anymore). All I've found is the Japanese transliteration for "cock-a-doodle-doo" (クックドゥードゥルドゥー). Saix (talk) 21:53, 3 November 2021 (EDT)
There are several Beastformers who have names that are not animal related. Golder, Fly Kick, Gray Sharp, Wild Thunder, Geadar, Bonga, Violet Horn, Sea Iron, Undergran, Flying Attacker, Dream Eater, Bupink, Slow, Musk Horn, Udan. So it to argue that they would not use Cook is not a valid argument. Why would he use a Variant Razor? That does not make sense. A Variant Laser does however, and as much translating I have done between the laser beasts and battle beasts it makes complete sense. Why would would it fire a razor? Creating a rotating razor barrier? Sorry I am not convinced.
