Starscream's greatest dreams appear to have come true...or have they?

Synopsis

On the ruined streets of Detroit, Starscream stands atop the piled corpses of the Autobots, cackling with glee at their defeat. Lugnut and Blitzwing hail him as the supreme Decepticon leader, praising his brilliance and might. Later, Starscream sits upon the Decepticon throne. Blackarachnia, who is chained up by Starscream, eagerly offers to bring him an energon snack or a motor oil beverage. Starscream declines, as that duty falls to his personal servant: Megatron, who has brought Starscream refreshments while profusely apologizing for ever doubting his potential for leadership. As Starscream enjoys his oil, drifting off to sleep while Blackarachnia massages him, a voice echoes, telling him to wake up...

The feel of Megatron's cannon striking his head rouses Starscream, who has been enjoying a stasis nap in Megatron's throne, and he awakens to find the other Decepticons staring down angrily at him. Megatron chastises him for falling asleep during a staff meeting and threatens to make his stasis permanent next time, leaving Starscream in an awkward panic..

Quotes

"Oh, clearly Starscream's ze only logical choice as leader." "And I will scramble ze circuits of any bot zat questions his absolute authority!" "Who would be crazy enough to do zat?I just don't know, I don't know!"

—For once, Blitzwing's three personalities are in agreement.

"Oh wise and beneficent Starscream, how could I ever have doubted your leadership abilities? Please forgive me for taking so long to wake up...wake up...wake up...wake up...wake up...WAKE UP!"

Megatron's sycophancy nicely transitions into the end of Starscream's dream.

Notes

Continuity errors

  • Like "Starscream Heckles Megatron", this short doesn't quite gel with the show's continuity due to the real-world segments taking place in the Decepticons' mine base from Season 2, by which point Starscream had since gone rogue and was no longer working with Megatron.

Real-world references

  • Blackarachnia being bound to Starscream by a chain around her neck is more than a bit evocative of Princess Leia and Jabba the Hutt in Return of the Jedi.

Trivia

  • This short and "Logo" currently remain unreleased in any form, though it was aired at the Animated panels at BotCon 2009 and BotCon 2012. The only publicly-available details on both shorts come from The AllSpark Almanac II. However, the finer details of the short were obtained for this article thanks to individuals who had been given private screenings of the shorts by Marty Isenberg in the years since, on the condition that the shorts themselves not be publicly distributed.
