Starscream tries his hand at Decepticon leadership, but there's just a couple of problems...

Synopsis

[edit]

In the days following Optimus Prime, Megatron, and SARA's disappearance, Cloud World has fallen into chaos. The Autobots of Metropolis are bearing the brunt of disasters and repeated attacks from the emboldened Decepticons led by Starscream. With no serious challengers—Shockwave having cloistered himself in his base—the ever-opportunistic Starscream took leadership in Megatron's absence and the other Decepticons, despite not trusting him, follow him out of need for leadership. Blitzwing questions Starscream's general strategy, however, and bluntly warns his "leader" to be wise about his orders and refusal to be on the front lines with his troops. As an example of the power Starscream should be showing on the battleground, Blitzwing shows off his Triple Changer abilities, to Starscream's envy. But the new Decepticon leader has a trick up his sleeve...

At the Autobot garrison in Metropolis being constantly bombarded by Decepticon attacks, Subcommander Jazz and medic Ratchet are struggling to support their comrades against the onslaught. Brawn and Hot Rodimus, having received the brunt of Megatron's attacks, are still down and recovering from their injuries. Jazz attempts to order a retreat, but the still-weak Brawn argues against this decision, refusing to forgive himself for letting Commander Optimus disappear and musters out some beatings on some Decepticons despite his battered body. Starscream shows up at the battle, announcing his arrival by blowing a hole through Brawn, killing the mighty little Autobot. Grieving over his dead comrade, Ratchet angrily asks the Decepticons why they're pointlessly fighting as Cloud World collapses due to the absence of SARA. Undaunted, Starscream pulls out an energy unit, which he explains has absorbed SARA's residual energy in the chamber where Megatron disappeared. He attaches the device to his body, expecting to ascend to Supreme Ruler of Spacetime, only to quickly surge with overflowing energy and burn out in a flash of light. For the energy, even an iota, of SARA is not so easily contained in a Transformer's body.

To rub salt on the wound, the collapsed Starscream is knocked about by Blitzwing, who mocks Starscream for his poor showing in front of the Autobots and reveals he was merely following Starscream because he helped unite the disparate forces of the Decepticons. As Starscream drags himself away from the fight, Blitzwing turns his attentions on to the weakened Autobots with his rifle. Just as the Decepticon is about to help Ratchet join Brawn, a Dimensional Gate opens above to reveal Optimus Prime and SARA, returned to their homeworld!
